However, Boris Said, aka Bob Said, won the non-championship ’53 #RouenGP in an Osca MT4 like the one pictured, he was running 2nd in the ’55 #Sebring12Hours when he crashed into an ambulance(!), & he later took up bobsleigh, representing the USA in the ’68 & ’72 Olympics... (2/3)

#HappyBirthday Marc Gené, 51. He won in #FFord, #SuperFormula, #OpelFortunaByNissan, #WorldSeriesByNissan, #LeMansSeries & #WEC, including Le Mans in 2009. He raced 36 #F1 GPs, best 5th. Pic: winning the 2010 #Sebring12Hours, Peugeot 908 HDI FAP, with Alex Wurz & Ant Davidson.

In ’60 he was 6th in the #Sebring12Hours in a Ferrari 250GT, then he crashed it in practice for that year’s #LeMans24Hours. Assumed dead, he was nonetheless taken to hospital, stayed for 8 months, & eventually made a full recovery. Pic: leading Chris Bristow, Aintree, ’59. (2/2)

Umberto Maglioli also won the last #CarreraPanamericana, the #Pescara12Hours, the #Sebring12Hours, the #BuenosAires1000km & the #Monza1000km. He started 10 championship #F1 GPs, finishing 3rd twice. Pic: the Ferrari he shared with Mike Hawthorn at Pescara in ’53; they won. (2/3)

Remembering Jo Gartner, born #OnThisDay in ’54, a winner in #F2 (Pau ’83) & a fine endurance racer (he won the ’86 #Sebring12Hours). He entered 8 #F1 GPs, for Osella, qualifying for them all, no mean feat, best 5th at Monza in ’84 (pic). He was killed at Le Mans in ’86.

Remembering Olivier Gendebien, born #OnThisDay 101 years ago, one of the greatest sports car racers of all time. He won the #LeMans24Hours x4, #TargaFlorio x3, #Sebring12Hours x3, #Reims12Hours x2 & #Nürburgring1000km x1. He also bagged 2 #F1 podiums. Great portrait by John Ross.
