On this night, let's not forget that the reason for the season is souls coming out of holes in the ground.

I LOVE halloween.
I love that it is all about community. We’re connecting with our ancestors. With our neighbors. With our wild sides. With the sidhe.
I could have just been the house with big candy. But i am ALSO the Blue Ring Octopus and the girl with a little bonfire and a party speaker.

[6] Dressing up is also an Irish tradition. The Folklore Commission noted boys would dress up as old men or hags/Cailleach (the Cailleach is a key figure in ancient mythology & for instance the Banshee (Bean Sídhe) is a version of her. Dressing up confused evil spirits!

The elves are pure Celtic Twilight, their names heavily indebted to Welsh, the disappearance into the West all very Tuatha De Danaan--the root of the Sidhe/Faery folklore he was drawing on. I dunno that it's a straight mapping, but I think there's a definite *nod* toward the pre-Saxon Celtic culture

So, tomorrow's the big day – just one more #SamhAIn challenge and then back to normal programming 🎃
Friday's "Neon-Sidhe" theme combines the aesthetic of neon-noir with Celtic mythology 👻
And, if you've made it this far, you should know that "Sahmain" can be pronounced 'SOW-in' 🇮🇪 or 'SAH-vin' 🏴 :)

Happy to be your muse :)
I'm curious to see what you come up with for tomorrow's "Neon Sidhe" style – my take is 'Blade Runner meets Celtic mythology' – fitting for the date 🎃

Finally, a mix of haunting and unnerving songs for a more atmospheric and decidedly child unfriendly evening of horror.

Don't feed them after midnight.
Don't say "I'll be right back".
Don't be their friend, you know you'll only wake up outside a school in the morning...

Irish Folklore Time for Spoopy Season: The bean sídhe (banshee)
A faerie woman who is said to foretell the death of family members (some believe she only does this for families with ancient roots). if you hear her keening (wailing or moaning) then it is almost certain someone will die that night!

This was at #Samhain, that pining came to an end & true love found it's way - Aoinghus & Caer went to Newgrange to be together forever (which might be a year and a day, the length of the world ;) ) #Speirgorm not all Samhain tales are creepy, or scary, Not all Sidhe women lure you away into wasting

Very interesting the parallels between Irish & Palestinian folklore; the Sidhe and the Bride cause a man to pine away from lovesickness; reminds me that the Wandering of Aoinghus ended after 3 years, at Loch Beal na Dragún (dragon's mouth loch, or Dragon's jewel), now Loch Musky, at #Samhain
For one instance if how Palestinian and Irish folklore rhyme, here’s my mini zine about the Fairy Lover, and the Bride: soniasulaiman.itch.io/paranormal-p...
