The Tartan Sikhs at Kranji Singapore

Earlier today, Sikh pipers gave a fitting tribute to the 3318 Singh’s of the Indian Army who died in East Asia in WWII whose names are carved on the walls of Kranji War Cemetery.

A very moving ceremony.

3318 Singh’s on the Wall

There are 3318 Singh’s who died in East Asia in WW2 whose bodies were never found. Their names are carved on the walls of the Kranji War Cemetery. On Sunday Feb8 attend a commemoration and a special exhibition.

British POWs officers of the Indian Army in Changi Singapore 20 May 1943, an astonishing survival as it was misfiled. They were all kept together & not sent on work parties to prevent them from interacting with the Indian POWs in the city who had served under them.

81 Years ago today - 8000 men died including over 2000 Indian POWs when the Japanese "Hell Ships" Tango & Ryusei Maru were sunk by USS Rasher. See my article below.

SURRENDER OF SINGAPORE – “THE POW WHO SAVED KASHMIR” Bombed at Robinsons on 15Feb1942- Captain Pritam Singh 2/16 Punjab , MC

After recovering, Singh escaped to India and later defended Poonch bravely during the 1947-8 Kashmir war with Pakistan.
