I've spent the day installing all my apps to my pc just to get back on my feet and i've seen the news that NgSkinTools(Which i was using to rig X) has been acquired by Autodesk, Really hope they don't destroy it like they did with Softimage/XSI.

I can't STRESS ENOUGH how phases 1-2 is the best way to learn their pipeline!

The storyboards are fast, there's 2d and 3d animatics for 19-2000 + Rock the House, so many mistakes that breaks the illusion, and a wayback machine site telling us the tools that El Manana used (primarily AE + Softimage)

Totally agree. At CN we had Maya mainly as our 3D tool, but initially we started with Lightwave and Softimage, with Cinema 4D / Infini-D for its integration with After Effects and 3DS for its interoperability with Flame suites. There’s no such thing as a “standard”

Tools change and programs die after being “industry standard” all the time. Dose it stop being standard? Some people still use bloody Softimage 3D somehow.

Easily tcrf.net/The_New_Tetris for the most epic/vile rage fill programmer rants ever hidden in a game binary

I will also be archiving the information on each page here to be safe, and to be honest it's mostly info graphics

Bro's got a nose as shiny as a softimage render from the 90's

That little Indy was probably $20,000. The software people were licensing for it was probably more than the cost of the machine - eg. Wavefront, SoftImage etc.

You got it! 🔔

To promote Test Drive 5, for whatever reason, Accolade sent out screenshots of their SoftImage 3D development environments showing the tracks and cars being modeled

Today's challenge: Can you figure out what game this development screenshot comes from? We recovered this from our press CD collection (we know what it is, but we want to see if anyone can get this!)

Interesting, the 3D was also done in Softimage. Seeing Softimage's history and the tools in it, I can see what Blender was trying to recreate.

I used trueSpace fairly often from about 99 to 06. I don't remember how I found it either, probably a disk in one of the 3D art mags. I was sad when Microsoft killed it

I tried Lightwave and softImage, but preferred trueSpace. I try Blender every now and then but can't quite get into it.

Thanks!
But, as I said in that post, those images were rendered in a 3DCG software Softimage 3D that we used for the development. Not in PS1. So the resolutions are much higher than ones from PS1.

This time Popolocrois Hajimari no Bouken (PS2) used original software, Softimage 3D was used and the experimental is started for sony to make Toon Shading in game.

PopoloCrois III Pilot Version are using SoftImage 3D around in earlier PS2 debuting.

here is the High-res scans Image for PopoloCrois III Prototype version in 1999 with help of Softimage 3D.

SOFTIMAGE?!?

Which version?
October 5, 2025 at 10:22 PM
Tima was used for distortion of existing imagery, e.g. in case of thermal movements.

Here are some details about Softimage|3D and Eddie
