If it's anything like Wyoming, I'd believe it in a heartbeat. I live in Texas & have worked with enough Hispanics some Spanglish is just part of my regular vocabulary. I said something to my son in Spanish & it was like something from a movie. Literally everyone in the store turned around, glaring

When I managed restaurants, I was at a high level, but I've been studying French for 5 years or so. People love my comments in Spanglish though because they're rather derogatory to The Regime.

Local Hispanic slang which varies from town to town, kind of a Spanglish 🙂. Some speak a form of pure Basque here interestingly. I've taken the correct Spanish in college, although am mucho out of practice.

Eso en mi tierra es un Merlo. En inglés (Gibraltar) al fruto del níspero se le llama Medlar. En Spanglish se convierte en Merla y por extensión un árbol que da Merlas es un Merlo.

Counterpoint: Everyone's lives would improve if they lived next to an abuela who calls them mija when giving them homemade food with Spanglish reheating instructions as a thanks for helping her family with something. Some caldo de res & machaca might knock that racism right out of him.
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do

I carry mine too along with a copy of my birth certificate. And, I'm ghostly white. I trust no one overhearing my bad spanglish. That's how untrusting I am of just walking outside my front door.
