#SpeedOfLight Notice that only the special theory of relativity agrees with all the experiments listed. This fact was a great advance for the theory of Einstein elaborated from a sad man in a patent office.

#SpeedOfLight De Sitter in 1913 proposed that if the speed of light is not equal to c but is equal to c + kv (where v is the speed of the reference system), then k must experimentally be very small, less than 1E-3.

#SpeedOfLight The experiment carried out in 1881 by Michelson and Morley in Potsdam led to the rejection of the existence of the ether.

#SpeedOfLight Sound needs air to reach our ears. It was impossible for anything to propagate in a vacuum. For this reason, scientists invented the ether, which had zero density, was totally transparent at all frequencies, and permeated all space.

#SpeedOfLight Scientists in the 19th century were convinced that light, and all electromagnetic waves, needed a medium to propagate. Mechanical waves that are transmitted by a string need the string itself to propagate.

#SpeedOfLight The special theory of relativity (1905) considers reference systems moving with constant speed. In order to include accelerated reference frames, Einstein had to develop the general theory of relativity (1915).

#SpeedOfLight The most incredible thing is that Einstein developed all his theory completely alone, he was not in contact with the academic world, his interaction with the experts in this field of physics was null.

#SpeedOfLight Einstein used the law of conservation of energy and momentum in a very natural way, as if the components of light were objects of traditional mechanics but obeying the new laws of the special theory of relativity.

#SpeedOfLight The theory of special relativity tells us how space and time change for observers who move at constant speeds. There is no state of rest or absolute movement. Also, something non-intuitive is: time is not absolute. Einstein was 26 in 1905 when he published his work.

#SpeedOfLight This causes a small but not imperceptible relativistic time dilation producing a delay of 38.1 microseconds each day, wich can translate into a position discrepancy of 11.4 km.

#SpeedOfLight The network of satellites that provide coverage for a GPS move in geostationary orbits at a speed of 10,900 km/h, which is very small compared to the speed of light.
October 5, 2025 at 5:22 PM
#SpeedOfLight The discrepancy is due to the fact that an observer on Earth sees the satellites in motion and, therefore, Special Relativity tells us that their clocks work more slowly, and therefore it must be taken into account to know our position on the terrestrial sphere.

#SpeedOfLight If relativistic effects were not taken into account, a car GPS that tells us that our destination is 2.6 km away would be making a mistake, the correct distance would be about 15 km.

#SpeedOfLight Magie made this comment in 1911, we must remember that the general theory of relativity had not yet been formulated. Magie did not even imagine the revolution that would come later in 1915, shocking scientific knowledge.

#SpeedOfLight On December 28, 1911, Princeton University professor W. F. Magie (founder of the American Physical Society and president from 1910 to 1912) said that he could not accept the basic postulates of the theory of relativity, at a meeting of APS.

#SpeedOfLight While working in the patent office, Albert Einstein's deep reflections on the Maxwell and Lorentz problems of electrodynamics led him to create the special theory of relativity.

#SpeedOfLight Is the bent rod that we see with part out and part in the water real? We see it broken, but when we take it out of the water it is totally straight. The same occurs with the Lorentz – FitzGerald contraction that follows from the Theory of Special Relativity.

#SpeedOfLight Einstein's first postulate of the special theory of relativity (STR) says that two observers with constant speeds obtain the same laws of Physics. That is, they are equivalent and cannot determine their own absolute speeds.

#SpeedOfLight Since the speed of light is a constant, the concept of simultaneity depends on the reference frame (RF) in which we make the measurement. Events that are simultaneous in one certain RF may not be in another.
