My post about this had so many typos so I’ll try again 😅 Last week I received a City of Vancouver Award of Excellence in the Entrepreneurial Cornerstone category 🎉 Several other awards were handed out that evening including the Book Award, which went to the Squamish Nation, and Heritage awards:

Come to Vancouver easier to go mountain biking in Whistler blackcomb, or the grouse grind/gondola up grouse mountain, Shannon falls and gondola up the chief (small version of el capitan) in squamish, whale watching in the salish sea, sturgeon fishing (catch and release) on the Fraser river...

All flags in the city flew at half-mast and the city closed its offices in her honour. The Squamish people lined the street to pay respect to her.
In 1945, she was designated as a person of National Historic Significance.

I lived nearby as a kid and vividly remember both this storm, and all the newspaper coverage afterwards. I loved driving with my parents to Squamish up old Highway 99, and that this had happened on that road, in a place I knew, really made me pay attention. Still remember it every time I'm at MCreek
