#Structuralism
issue with what we may call 'stancilism' or 'vulgar structuralism' or vulgar post-structuralism etc. because peoples perception of social forces and material realities is obviously shaped by networks of 'authoritative' information it doesnt follow that material factors can be entirely sidestepped.

I think my disdain for large language models may well be rooted in the fact that I never agreed with the tenets of structuralism. #JokeLikeSubstance

Of note that I'm teaching Deleuze & Guattari tomorrow afternoon. (Written Literacy: I've already taken them through Saussure and the structuralist approach, now comes post-structuralism and whee, rhizomes!)

So, sleep is important.

7/10 The essay critiques Meillassoux for missing this: his “hyper-chaos” still clings to a dualistic framework (subject/object, math/reality). Post-structuralism, by dissolving the subject, eliminates the gap - immanence is the absolute.

1/10 How can philosophy think a reality independent of human consciousness? The essay looks at Meillassoux' critique of modern philosophy’s “correlationism” and offers a radical alternative via post-structuralism.

Dream: talking to a group of psychotherapists about the revolution brought to Freud with Lacan’s structuralism and following post-structuralism, and how I’m going to bring that to cognitive therapy. 🤦

I teach structuralism tools to my students, especially narrative program by Greimas and actantial model. The good point is that's it's easily appliable to video games mechanics and you can fill it with anything.
Then, storylets is my favourite ND concept.

I think if we went back to early structuralism (like Propp on the folktale) this is one of the insights that gets them started: the feeling we have that these stories are not governed by ordinary logic but by some weirdly rigid principle where things happen three times, hair must be mentioned, &c

Using some insights from structuralism and classical econophysics, I put together two estimates of human compute that converge pretty well. Also connect the math back to Dunbar's social intelligence hypothesis. nicolasdvillarreal.substack.com/p/structural...

In trying to talk politics with someone I bring up Buddhism, in talking religion I have to start thinking liberalism and Marx and post-structuralism — everything is connected to everything else and the concept will blind you to reality.

There’s a vast difference between formalism and structuralism. Much theory in the United States today is people who pretend to be structuralists doing formalism under the banner of “interdisciplinarity.” But there are very few bona fide structuralists today.
