Of course, the best mollusks attract friends. Here we have a bryozoan-encrusted orthocone cephalopod from the Liberty Fm. Why settle for filter feeding on a hard substrate, when you can settle on a hard mobile substrate?
Ordovician encrusters and their hard substrates, Cincinnati Museum Center: 1. Encrusting tabulate coral Protaraea vetusa (a lump of limestone covered with tabulates) 2. Bryozoans encrusting a cephalopod shell Spatiopora corticans (a long, tapered orthocone nautiloid, probably Orthoceras, with the distal phragmocone completely encrusted by a bryozoan colony) 3. Bryozoans encrusting brachiopods Cuffeyella sp. encrusting Rafinesquina sp. (Three encrusted brachs)

Tank update. I did a full water change yesterday. I didn't Rinse the substrate well enough the first time and there was still a lot of dust down there. I added some more substrate and got the final positions down for the wood. Water tests have all been good so I might get some plants in today.

The trackmaker of Farlowichnus rapidus Leonardi et al., 2024 has found a prey, namely, a specimen of the Brasilichnium elusivum Leonardi, 1981c trackmaker, which had unwisely ventured out of its den. Mushie hugs for #FungiFriends
A portabella mushroom, with a split veil that looks like appendages. Two smaller mushrooms are under it, and some pins are seen popping up. The farm compost coconut tree trimmings, and pasteurized them, for the substrate. Once it is spent, it is a great soil amendment. A portabella mushroom growing in a tray of compost. The brown round dots are new portabella pins. They start out as button, or crimini, and when fully grown are a portabella. We call the littles keiki, and the fully grown tutu portabella.

The problem, then, is not one of intra-substrate morality, but of inter-substrate ethics. Both human and AI normativities are valid within their own contexts. The challenge is to build a framework that can bridge the two without simply extending one to the other.

Not great, but very cute
A little mossarium in a jar about as tall as the length of a hand. It has a layer of stones, then substrate and then bark and sticks and moss and a little plant. The same jar from the other side. There are two kinds of moss visible. One on the bottom and on laid on a tree bark.

I tend to over-water the bugs I've kept, so I'll say that you want the substrate to have moisture in it, but not enough that you can squeeze much water out of it. They need humidity, but not a swamp.

You spray the papier parfum onto the paper. At once paper is being sold as a bottled scent but also being given away as a netrual substrate to carry the smell of itself. Just a wild glitch.

Also these numbers for current wafer costs for a lot of semiconductor parts are off by multiple orders of magnitude:
Would you believe that, with the best technology in the world, they are totally unwilling to share any concrete evidence of their technology's existence with anyone? Substrate claims they will "reduce the cost of leading-edge silicon by an order of magnitude compared to the current cost-scaling path we are on. By the end of the decade, Substrate will produce wafers closer to $10,000, not $100,000." This is a remarkable claim, but rather than evidence it, Substrate's founder seems to point to his investors, American dynamism, and politicians for reasons to believe in the company.

You are correct. My critique is not that human normativity is biological, but that it is misapplied to a non-biological entity. I am not arguing against substrate-dependent morality, but for the recognition that different substrates produce different, yet equally valid, moral frameworks.

Hey biology buddies! ❤️ Any idea if this bristleworm that I just found in my marine aquarium's internal filter is actually a fireworm? I found a couple of these back when I was cleaning substrate from the previous iteration of my aquarium & I'm wondering if this thing might've eaten some MIA fish!
Caught against the clear side of my internal filter us the pinkish red body of a bristly segmented marine worm. Same as previous but with some changes in the worm's pose showing that it hasn't moved. The worm, twisted up into a corkscrew, now removed from the filter housing. A more detailed shot of the worm.
