The error message on SunOS/Solaris (I think) for failing reading an NFS share was "NFS server [name] not responding", and way back in the day (pre 2000) I came across a place that called their NFS servers after adverbs. E.g. "stubbornly" . Of course some clever person called one "probably" too. Fun.

Of course I had used things such as old BSD, SysVr3 and 5, 7th Edition (I presume it was), PDP-11 Venix that didn't hide dot-files. SysVr3 I had some knowledge of internally. Not much, but some.

En effet, mais c'est intéressant comme projet.
Un coup parti, tu veux être multiplateforme (Linux, Windows, Mac, Solaris, SunOS, Irix, Aix, HP/UX, Plan9)?

In the first semester they taught us Miranda. That was quite an experience.
Most annoying part was that even if it was a tiny language with a tiny binary, it was proprietary and ran only on university SunOS machines.

@seanddotmedotuk Erm, yeah, it's... been a while since I used a BSD system... I think the last time was a SunOS/Solaris system in 1996? So 28 years ago! I think the benefits they're touting are that the system init and configuration still works the same kind of way - no SystemD here.

As versions of Solaris / SunOS up until version 8 are considered abandoned, would it be useful for me to install and create clone images of them for other people to use with BlueSCSI / ZuluSCSI etc.?

No, there are dependencies, but Slackware is kind of like old school SunOS or HP-UX in that it's expected that you'll install all of the OS...

Having tired of 'OS upgrade' things, am gonna install Zorin OS with my old MacBook Pro, instead of buying the latest laptop. I started my computer career with Unix-like os, such as FreeBSD and Linux, also used HP-UX SunOS Solaris. Unix is good since we can see what's going on inside. #ZorinOS #Mac

Sun Microsystems

I have rotated around apple/windows/linux/unix/sunos/dos for years. Still have to Google to figure out something I have forgotten.

I sentence this defendant to a term of not less than twenty four months of accessing the web using lynx on a SunOS shell account.
The problem with every post-Millennial generation is they got to go straight to high speed internet. Of course you'll get computer madness that way. Make them start with those old screeching modems and work their way up

That's Solaris, SunOS preceded it. The mentioned features were a part of the later editions (>=9) of Solaris. The best features of SunOS was an Admin's personal toolkit for managing it.

BASIC and COBOL. Both of which I learned on Commodore Vic20 in 1981 and VAX in 1983 (I was in High School), respectively. It led to my first real job (corporate) in data entry in '88, then job control and scheduling. Led to using SunOS and AIX by the 90s and the rest is history...

All good. It’s been a long time since I’ve used the protocol name in a URL. Brings me back to the days of Mosaic on SunOS. :)
