One of my first 5e characters was a mystic. She was a prophet from Abbalayat and very mystical and witchy, with a lot of plant and elemental based powers along with the more spiritual divination Jedi-y powers. She even got a pink sunsword later on!

With the party for a while acting as a benefactor when in reality he's been entertaining himself and watching them closely. The Big Reveal is the party learning about his true identity, maybe through him stealing the sunsword (dick move, I know) or something else entirely

Like in Dungeon World, in 5e its much better to avoid just a simple +n for swords, and make interesting abilities. For example the Sunsword which emits sunlight and can cast certain light spells a few times a day.
Best to think of some cool effects and code into spells effects.

He's doing it for two reasons: to steal the sunsword and to convince Ireena he's not a bad guy, he's been her main benefactor, his steward in Vallaki (Ireena became the burgomaster) and she and Vasili have plans to marry in the future. Either one works for him

Sunsword would be legit, either as a sabre or just a Star Warsy sword on par with sabres (like vibroblade I guess). I like it!

It was so fun! The DM did a fantastic job bringing a really fun campaign to a larger group than usual, making sure we all had our chances to shine (in dawn's case, literally when we played a session where she was back in her sunsword form haha)
