A day late for #SundaysAreForSpinning . I brought fiber and am espinner with me on our MEA weekend roadtrip, but didn’t do any spinning while traveling. I did spin up the last bobbin of these singles when we got back yesterday. #Handspinning 🧶

#SundaysAreForSpinning and I’ve had more interest/motivation in spinning than I have in a while. I spun up 2 bobbins of singles, skeined and washed last week’s yarn, and started a new carding project. #Handspinning 🧶
Two wooden spinning wheel bobbins with golden brown spun singles, plus a batt of unspun fiber. The batt was from Mellyknits and is 75% Bond, 20% alpaca, 5% muga silk. A skein of 2 ply handspun yarn. The fiber is Rambouillet and it was naturally dyed by Petal & Hank into different shades of purple. The colors were spun separately and then plied together. Washed (and in one case, dyed) locks of wool ready for processing. In the back is Dorset. The locks are white, matte, blocky, with a tight crimp. On the lower left is a BFL cross. The locks have dark tips (it was a lamb, so is this the fleece it was born with), but the rest is either ivory or a pale pale grey. They have a sheen and are more curly than crimpy. On the lower right are Polypay x merino locks dyed in shades of green. Two rolled up batts of carded fleece. They are still a bit streaky in shades of green.

A 3-D printed spinning wheel bobbin (for a Lendrum using a WooLee Winder) full to the brim of a 2-ply yarn. Both plies are Rambouillet naturally dyed in 2 different shades of purple. Also shown is a different, larger 3D printed spinning wheel bobbin (for a Daedalus Starling espinner showing all that remains of the singles I had more of. I didn’t measure it out, but it is probably a few yards at most.

#SundaysAreForSpinning : I took a bit of a hiatus after Tour de Fleece, but I’m starting to get back into things. I spun about half of the darker purple (naturally dyed on Rambouillet), and finished carding just over 450g of Corriedale. #Handspinning #FiberPrep 🧶

It’s been a while since I did #SundaysAreForSpinning . I finished the second bobbin of grey Cheviot (I’m aiming for a 3-ply sock weight) and I scoured fleece yesterday and today. It’s the first time this summer that I’ve done any scouring. #Handspinning

A large skein (172g) of marled handspun 2-ply yarn. One ply is mostly white (with specks of silk noil and sari silk), the other was dyed in blue, purple, and grey. 2 carded batts. The one on the left is a bright white and is 100% Corriedale. The one on the right is more ivory. It’s the same Corriedale blended with 10% muga silk. I had done a good job with preserving the locks during scouring (this was back when O was tediously bundling them in tulle prior to scouring). The batt on the left had the locks popped open and then went through the carder twice. Similar prep for the wool on the right, but I needed four passes to properly blend in the silk. It’s the same Corriedale blended with 10% muga silk.

Two skeins of handspun yarn. The fiber was dyed in blue, green, and yellow, and I chain-plied the yarn to maintain chunks of color. The fiber was 80% Targhee, 10% bamboo rayon, and 10% silk. It was dyed by Created by Elsie B in the colorway “Dandelions at Dusk. Two plastic bobbins with spun singles. The bobbin on the left was some Helix top from Ewetopia. It was dyed in grey, purple, and blue. The bobbin on the right was spun from carded batts purchased as a “DIY Carding Kit” from Get Bentz Farm. It is mostly white Rambouillet with confetti-like sprinkles of sari silk and silk noil. There was also so Firestar, but the sparkle isn’t really visible. These two will be plied together. Three drum carded batts I’m referring to as fraternal batts. They all have the same base of grey Finn wool, and they all have the same proportions of peduncle silk, dyed mulberry silk, sari silk, and longwool blended in. The colors of the alpaca and dyed silk vary among the batts, as do the specific longwool used. The batt on the left is the darkest, as it had black alpaca blended in. The batt in the middle had both black and grey alpaca blended on, and the batt on the right and grey alpaca only. I’m going to spin the batts separately and ply them together, probably during Tour de Fleece.

3 skeins of handspun yarn. One is a mini skein. The yarn is 3-ply and sport weight. There is a slight gold tint to it, from the 15% baby camel and 5% muga silk blended with white Corriedale. Some hand dyed spinning fiber. It is a blend of Targhee, bamboo, and silk. The fiber is arranged in a spiral. The center is yellow, then blue and dark green. A spinning project in progress. It is a single spun fairly finely on a wooden WooLee Winder bobbin. The current color is blue, but some bits of yellow are poking through underneath. A plastic bin full of loose grey wool. It is a Finn fleece that has been picked open in preparation for carding.

#SundaysAreForSpinning: I plied the first bobbin of a blend from @mellyknits.bsky.social , carded up a kit from @getbentzfarm.bsky.social , and picked open some Finn fleece. Oh, and I ran a 5k trail run, with a free beer at the finish line.
At the top is one bobbin of 2-ply yarn, with 3 storage bobbins with singles below it. The yarn is a blend of white Corriedale, baby camel, and muga silk. The camel and silk add a slight golden sheen Two carded batts. The blend is mostly white Rambouillet. There are speckles of color courtesy sari silk and dyed silk boils. A touch of Firestar was included in the blend, but the resulting sparkle is not visible in the photo. A plastic tote filled with grey Finn fleece that has been picked open. Two skeins of 2-ply handspun yarn using the same fiber, wheels, and ratios. The one on the left, which is a lighter brown, was spun from a woolen prep. The one on the right, which looks like it has more grey mixed in with the brown, was spun from a worsted prep. The same two skeins after washing. They have puffed up a bit since before their bath. A spinning project in progress. On the bottom left are two washed Corriedale locks. They are white, 6+ inches long, and have a lovely fine crimp. The shepherd (Marble Peaks Ranch) no longer raises sheep. The bottom right shows part of a drum-carded batt which has 80% of the Corriedale blended with 15% baby camel and 5% muga silk. The add-ins tinge the batt slightly golden. Along the top are 3 plastic storage bobbins with spun singles.

#SundaysAreForSpinning : I tried thread plying and using beads for the first time. I used up 200m of thread and probably less than halfway done. @jillianeve.bsky.social had a great Vlogmas video that gave advice on how to do it. #Handspinning
A spinning wheel bobbin partially filled with thick and thin singles in purples, blues, and greens. There are occasional boils and naps and some saving silver. Next to it is a skein of yarn made by plying the same yarn with purple thread. The thread can’t really be seen, but it gives the yarn a zigzag appearance in places. There are some small purple beads strung on the thread, but they are so small that they are not very noticeable in the photo.
