Weeks pass after the events of Plei-Bertigh's Stellaron disaster. Sunday has yet to wake.

The first thing Sunday realizes upon drifting into a more lucid consciousness is that he's colder and, strangely, wetter than would usually prefer. The second is that he is so godawfully sore. Through all-encompassing ache of weary bones and the sluggish molasses his mind's mired in, any attempts piecing together what happened after plucking Silver Wolf from death's maw are all for naught.

Unable to make any progress on that task, Sunday opts to try parsing his immediate situation instead.

1.) Somewhere nearby sounds muffled beeping suspiciously like that of a heart monitor. Makes sense. Even if he can't quite recall the event, crashing down to earth feels the correct answer.

2.) Oddly enough, his hind wings seem to be splinted in some way if the uncomfortably stiff positioning is any indication. Muscle flexes to test this hypothesis and is immediately met with excruciating pain surging up the folded limbs.

Okay. Still there, he winces.

Coaxing heavy eyes open, Sunday learns he's currently floating, submerged within some kind of medical pod and that he isn't alone. Sat in a swivel chair across the room is Blade, head bowed so low dark hair completely obscures his face from view.

With what small force he can muster, color feebly reaches into Blade's mind and the man's head snaps up, candlewick eyes alert. "I don't think I can ease your Mara right now," Sunday whispers teasingly, "better come back to me before it gets worse."

Edges visibly softening, Blade rises to come closer. "You first," he rumbles, bringing his forehead carefully against the glass.

A tired smile crinkles Sunday's eyes in its growth. "Oh after you, I insist."

"Wooow," comes the low purr of Kafka's voice from the doorway, unsurprised in the slightest, the soft click of heels echoing faintly in the sterile room. "Awake for less than ten minutes and you're already trying to flirt eachother's pants off. I think Wolfie was right about you two after all."

Sunday huffs a wheeze into the oxygen mask strapped to his face. You know what? Perhaps she was. Wouldn't be the first time– definitely won't be the last, he reckons.

All things considered? He doesn't think he minds. Just don't tell her that. He'll never hear the end of it otherwise.

[later, blade's sat on the floor with his head resting against the pod]

"Don't do anything that reckless again," Blade chastises, voice dark and small, "you don't come back from stunts like that when they go wrong."

The sensation of Sunday's hand leaves his lover's, drifting to cup his face instead. "It will happen eventually, Blade, there's nothing you or I can do to prevent my fated end when the time comes. But I will endevor not to hasten the clock any more than neccessary."

[blade sighs and sunday sinks to the floor of the pod to be closer, placing a hand on the glass. "I promise not to leave you behind."

"You will."

"With any luck, you'll be the one widowing me and not the other way around."

Blade huffs some kind of half snort at that. "Scripts willing."

For as swiftly it happened, perhaps not even Blade expected his true and final death to come for him when it did. Sunday surely didn't. Would have never in a hundred years anticipated Kafka to return from a mission alone when she and Blade had departed together.

Grief is such an odd thing.
The oddest of all being Kafka's lack of it.

That boy of yesterday broke himself upon the altar time and time and time again, and look what great and heaping pile of "divine glory" all that spilt blood got him.

Never again will he bleed for this man. In the company of wolves the once sheltered lamb has grown into a fanged member of the pack; the whole of THEIR oh so beloved mercy could not save him now.

"Thought I'd find you up here." Kafka slinks to his side, trail of smoke from her lit cigarette curling with every movement. "Birdie, hm?"

Blade glances sideways at her. He knows that tone, and for as many times as they've played this game, he's learned her rules by heart. The easiest way to win is to simply not play. "Far as I was aware, it didn't matter who we see."

"Hate to interrupt your little soap opera melodrama," Silver Wolf's voice crackles to life in their earpieces, interrupting the moment, "but we have about ten minutes until showtime and Sunday's been disconnected for like at least the last twenty."

Hesitantly, Sunday stops. It would be rude to ignore her, even if her tone indicates this "advice" she's offering is likely not going to be advice at all. He musters up the most pleasant voice he can, complete with complimentary customer service smile. "Let's hear it."

Eyes obscured by tinted lenses, a venomous smirk crosses her lips and Sunday already regrets his choice.

"Fall any deeper, little bird, and you're liable to end up in hell."
