Wikipedia tells me that Vereshchagin dedicated this painting "to all great conquerors, past, present and to come." One of the many reasons he is one of my top artists of all time.

Anyway, do I need to say that I enjoyed that episode? Probably don’t need to, since I clearly did as this is our Nth rewatch, and I was a Tolkien nerd mark to begin with anyway. But still, does a decent enough job of setting stuff up. And pointing out that elves are arseholes.

There’s an argument to be made that Hobbits* shouldn’t feature in this show since they’re not in any of the Second Age writings, but honestly it wouldn’t feel like a Rings show without them. It works.
