Stuart Varney (FNC) used to regularly rail about the poors having "flat-screen" TVs well after old standard-def TVs and tuners were obsolete and no longer being sold.

Curb, which is a company that does payments and bookings for yellow cabs across the country, has entered a partnership with Newsmax and will be broadcasting Newsmax in the backseat tvs of every cab in new york.

This is horrible. I liked using Curb and supporting medallion cabs rather than uber or lyft. The TVs have always been annoying but blasting fascist propaganda to NYC taxi riders is beyond the pale.

One of the less noted things about the era before phones and tvs was just how unforgiving all the free time was. And how poor communication was. If you read rural correspondence of the 19th/20th century, you often find people travelling great distances to see folks only to discover that nobody is in
