Eastern Taiwan's ill-fated Taroko Gorge is under evacuation orders due to a landslide barrier lake that formed today (8/17). The debris is 25 meters tall and as you can see in the attached photo of the Swallow's Grotto (via the national parl FB page), water levels were already high this afternoon.

The Baiyang waterfall is one of many in Taroko Gorge. The marble gorge is one of only three in the world. It's a national park in Hualien, Taiwan.

⚒️ Now we are starting to get some photos and videos from within Taroko. Here is a view of the extremely steep section of the gorge that looked most impacted, with a photo from 2018 for comparison. Note that the large boulders in the river are unrelated to the earthquake - they were already there.

NCL should have known about the situation at Taroko Gorge and cancelled the port months ahead instead of just days ahead of the cruise.
Been to Taroko Gorge decades ago, I don't feel the need to go again. But a visit to Hualien would be nice too for the temples and markets.
