“Stay here…It will be a mess,"he said.
"…does that matter?"
…This was,and was not quite, the woman who had walked into the shade of the trees that afternoon at the tennis party, feigning surprise…He nodded and picked up his bag, wondering what he had lost, who.

Reading #TheLandInWinter, #AndrewMiller #Booker nominated novel & just found this, which so resonates with me:
‘All winter you hold yourself like a fist, a tension you’re hardly aware of until the first warm day when you lift your face to the sun…It was far too early to start dreaming of summer’

Bit disappointed with #DavidSzalays #Flesh as @thebookerprizes.com winner. Read that and #TheLandinWinter and felt Andrew Miller's book was unique and exemplary. Flesh was fun. .... #writingcommunity #books #writers #greatbooks #blueskybooks

Disappointed by @bookerpb.bsky.social outcome but that's life. The super cool winner knew he had won too . . . #Flesh #TheLandInWinter

Eric waited. "Is it a dream?" he asked.
The skull rocked slowly from side to side and smiled.

She opened the door. "Is it starting to lift?" she asked.
"I think so," he said.
They stood side by side, looking out at the garden. It was the moment, a small lapse in the ritual of the visit, when something might have been said, but nothing was.

#NewBookDay To assuage my grief of #Seascraper not being on the Booker shortlist, I'm reading this one, which may ease some of the disappointment!

Hello, Bluesky! With very little idea of who to follow or, indeed, what to say, I shall simply recommend the beautiful book I am reading, which I have popped in a snowdrift and absokutely not on a duvet. Do we do hashtags on here? Who knows! #books #thelandinwinter #andrewmiller
