#TradPub
It's so good. Probably one of the only realistic portrayals of working in a male-dominated environment that's been released by tradpub.

I've been told my multiple tradpub authors that there's no point in tradpub except space in b&n. But standing out amid the slop is nearly impossible. It's hard to keep enthusiasm about my work, so a little pat on the head goes a long way
On behalf of all self-published authors, I authorize you to reach out & tell us if you really enjoyed something we wrote.

We’re all dog-paddling in a sea of self-doubt & impostor syndrome & those little messages mean a lot.

Unless stated otherwise, our DMs/inboxes are always open for kind words 💞

-giftable, and lets it travel (but not spread) untracked.

Audio is another way to boost accessibility, which is why I will keep making digital TTS audio editions until I can afford to pay a human reader.

I think tradpub vs. selfpub has a bigger effect on a work than format. A publishing house- 2/4

It’s how I met the Kraken Collective, and definitely how I got up the nerve to re-release Handmade Holidays the same way once I realized I had readers for the series.

And ultimately? It led to me not even trying to shop Upon the Midnight Queer to tradpub, because ha ha ha.

I’d seen how OEB did.

Reality really sucks and my brain is too mushy to pay attention to 100% new information à la tradpub books & television so I need some really good, God-Tier fics to take my mind off things. I'm reading a lot of Wangxian atm, but I could probably be led towards Destiel fics as well. More ships below⬇️

right after I watched this, I went on TikTok and saw 2-3 posts from people who I would've otherwise respected in that pouty "no one is showing up for me" format and

marketing is work, I'm sorry that most of you just don't want to do it, there's no going back to the tradpub that does that for you

cant wait for all the elizabeth/monster tradpub we're going to get in a few years' time

love it when shit goes public domain. like you don't even have to file the serial numbers off to make it tradpub you can just be like "anyways here's my Dracula fanfic, that'll be $30, thanks"
November 7, 2025 at 10:27 PM
And honestly sometimes I wonder if tradpub writers even have that professional team cause 😬😬😬😬 if you know what I mean.
November 5, 2025 at 7:53 AM
Tradpub writers miss the fact that the only things separating them from fanfic writers atp are a business model, industry standards, and a professional team.
Tradpub authors always thought their work was objectively better, because it existed on paper and fanfic did not. Bookstores are for *real* writers, you see. But now fanfic authors are doing signings and succeeding with the normies, so what makes tradpub authors special now?

I think tradpub doesn't know what to do with female rage or fmc who are messy in any way that isn't "cute"
November 4, 2025 at 4:37 PM
Maybe I'll self pub it at some point, after I figure out what I'm doing with the book that might currently be dying on sub. Feels like tradpub doesn't know what to do with me but there's a market.

But the cost of tabling at cons just keeps going up and up. The cost of printing books is through the stratosphere even though it remains cheap as chips for tradpub.

Next year, an author who doesn't get into writers block at MCM will be facing a cost of over £1,000 for a single retail table.

I just realized—as I hoarded my book away from anyone remotely interested in it—that I am just as afraid of success as I am of failure. The difference is, you only fail if you give up. But if you never try, you’ll never succeed.

I’m finally ready to try.

yeahh, that’s the issue with it becoming a legitimate proving ground/stepping stone for tradpub horror. I just read a book in the back it said it started as a series on there, and despite it being their debut novel, the author apparently got a 3 book publishing deal in part thanks to that ( ; o__O)

Is there a tradpub version of Kickstarter? Like saying that you'd buy the book asap? Cuz i bought sunshine the day it was announced. I'd buy a pre-order in a heartbeat.
October 31, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Yeah, I always feel conflicted between my desire to get some money for my work, vs getting as many eyeballs to read it as possible, which, unless you have a tradpub contract or are *really* good at self-promotion, seems to be mutually exclusive.

Occasionally I remember that CS Pacat's Dark Heir is censored in America because the unicorn's vibes were too gay and I despair at tradpub, honestly.

Actually speaking of, I have the illustrated/signed edition of Dark Rise, it's really beautiful, would anyone be interested in buying it off me?

Author who has published in both indie and trad contexts: complains about unfair conditions in tradpub
Passing stranger: go indie :-)
October 28, 2025 at 11:48 PM
...compare everyone who queries to everyone who self-publishes.

95% of people who query get $0 (ever)
~50% of self-publishers make at least *some*

And I know plenty who make full-time income, much more regularly than tradpub.

Overall, chances of making income is much greater on the selfpub side.
October 28, 2025 at 8:59 PM
That's a stat that has a lot more traction on the traditional publishing side than the self-publishing side. :) If you compare only people who get a tradpub contract to everyone that self-publishes, that's apples-to-oranges comparison.

For apples-to-apples...
