1863: #UnionSoldiers called freed slaves “contraband”—but treated them with compassion, giving safety, food, and even weapons before official Black units were formed. The Centum Diary reveals this extraordinary humanity.

I love this. Here we have the New York Infantry Irish Brigade Memorial. The sun was blinding me when I snapped these photos. 🌞☘️

You ever heard of a US death camp for freed slaves run by Union soldiers ? No, that's the point. After the Civil War, over twenty thousand newly freed black people fled to Natchez, Mississippi for safety. The Union army forced thousands of them, mostly women and children, into a deep ravine known as the Devil's Punchbowl. It wasn't shelter. It was a prison surrounded by guards, disease, starvation, and no escape. They died by the thousands, so many that locals say the ground still weeps. But here's the kicker, It wasn't Confederates who did this. It was the Union. There are no memorials, no school lessons, us trees, and silence. Why ? Because acknowledging this would mean admitting that racism wasn't just a Southern thing. It was American. This is your reminder. Freedom isn't just about emancipation. It's about what happens next and who gets erased in the process. Comment and share, So so others will know this tragedy. Their story is our history. Share, believe, inspire blacks, be.
