Found this Winter Moth on the school window last week (VC66). A first for me.

I have a lower 2.6 pair/monad average for the very well known NZ34 with 250 pairs.

Since 2000 Willow Tit have been recorded in 454 1km squares in VC66 whilst some of those records are 25y/o traditional territories are way older than that & several areas have seen increases in range & no’s
4/5

Up here in VC66 there are this century PBB records from w/c 3rd November and an older one on 29th October!

Not exciting to many I guess, but my first ever trapped Winter Moth last night. Just a December Moth and LBAM for company. VC66 #Moths #TeamMoth #MothsMatter

I found today a couple of Aspen leaves with apparent Ectoedemia argyropeza mines at Rainton Meadows NR. I’ve not seen them before and there are not too many records in VC66, so any opinions are welcome! #TeamMoth

A great record !
Quite a distinctive call !

They can & will move overland away from any watercourses contrary to literature.

Since the last Atlas the Dipper in VC66 has come on tremendously, breeding in x7 new Hectads & at least x64 additional Tetrads (22% & 44% increases).
🙂

Decent night after nothing but LBAMs in November! Acleris Hyemana, new for me, plus Sprawler, December Moth and Juniper Carpet. Also November ags and Feathers McThorn. VC66 #teammoth #moths #mothsmatter

Last night 10 of 8 sp moths. Australian Orange-tip (Tachystola acroxantha) was a new garden ✅, they have started to spread in the county in the recent years. Juniper Carpet was nfy and Willow Beauty a very late record. Durham VC66. #TeamMoth @teesbirds.bsky.social

Plenty of rain last night so only 5 moths bothered to check our trap. Brick was a year ✅ so it was worth having a go. Feathered Thorn, MdJ, Lesser YU and LBAM were the supporting cast. Durham VC66. #TeamMoth @teesbirds.bsky.social

Not a lot in last night's trap (11:7) but December Moth was our earliest record, a couple of Feathered Thorns, beautifully marked Mottled Umber and Acleris hyemana is a garden first, so not too shabby. Durham VC66 #TeamMoth

Three new year ✅ last night among 16 of 10 sp - December Moth (5 of them), Streak & Mottled Umber. Also Merveille, 2 Spruce Carpets and R-g Carpet. Durham, VC66. @teesbirds.bsky.social #TeamMoth

Got this beaut of an Epirrita sp. moth at the weekend. Though shows outward signs of Autumnal, due to it likely being a female even dissection wouldn't reveal the true species (not that I would), so just like all the dull specimens we got it'll go down as an aggregate. What a shame. #TeamMoth #VC66

A couple of nice moths this weekend in Billingham. Figure of Eight and my first ever Brick. VC66 #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth

I just realised that there’s only one VC66 record of S.assimilella and that’s from a nearby DWT nature reserve that I regularly visit 😳 - need to urgently pay attention to Aspens there.

Belated photos of the best moths (out of 10 sp) trapped on Thursday night. Feathered Thorn and November Moth agg. were nfy and we also got the 2nd Merveille du Jour and 3rd Rusty Dot Pearl of the autumn. Durham VC66. #TeamMoth @teesbirds.bsky.social

Feathers McThorn one of my favourite Autumn moths doing a good impersonation of a leaf this morning. I wasn't fooled. VC66 #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth

More NFY autumn moths in our garden: Green-brindled Crescent and Blair’s Shoulder-knot in the trap this morning. Durham VC66. #TeamMoth @teesbirds.bsky.social

Surprised to find a Light Emerald on the moth sheet last night as we do not usually get 2nd generation up here. Pale Mottled Willow was a year ✅ (due to being away large part of July). Also, 5 Red-green Carpets and a Dark Sword-grass. Durham VC66. #TeamMoth @teesbirds.bsky.social

Cloudless skies and low temperatures so touch and go whether to put the trap out at all last night, then checked at 9.45 to find this beauty inside. Could hardly believe it. Only 6 Co. Durham records before this year, just shows the unpredictability of mothing. #ClifdenNonpareil #TeamMoth #VC66

A very vocal Ring-necked Parakeet was a flyover garden tick this morning as I tended the moth trap early doors. #Whickham #VC66

Moth numbers (6 of 4 sp) in our garden are plummeting hand-in-hand with night temperatures, but we anyway managed to get a nfy, a smart Pink-barred Sallow. Durham VC66. #TeamMoth @teesbirds.bsky.social
