I had always envisioned Vedrfolnir with a soft voice... Turns out the one with a soft voice is Rerir, and Vedrfolnir is the one who sounds detestable. Heh. Didn't see that coming.

Intro posts for all the OCs + a couple of official characters

The premise: Doctor OC goes home to Sami some time before the events of IS4; here are all the locals who she may/may not cross paths with while she's there❅

Page 1 of the intro sheets, featuring;

1) Vedrfolnir: A tall, Infected ghostly creature with a crown of wildly growing branches draped with tattered strips of cloth. The remains of the Snowpriestess who was Hiver's mother.
While she looks very different now, she still loves babying Hiver.

2) Hiver: Account owner's Doctor OC. An actual medical doctor with snow white hair and white Liberi feather tufts. A researcher of Oripathy, she's back in Sami for both business and visiting family.
She personally takes care of Vedrfolnir's Oripathy treatment.

3) Vermeil: A young Vulpo operator who followed Hiver to Sami. Her bright golden hair and vermillion eyes are sharply contrasted with her white outdoor gear.
Official character; I know she's just a 4-star and snipers ain't meta anymore, but dotter is cute ok!!!

4) Totter: Another operator who followed Hiver to Sami. Also clad in white outdoor gear, the emerald fletching of his arrows are reminiscent of the north's ever-shifting auroras.
Official character; easily one of the best 4-star operators, take him along on IS4 runs for easy wins.

Page 2 of the intro sheets, starring:

1) Reifnir: An Elafian Treescar warrior who, unlike the others, wields a greatsword rather than the standard longhammer. This is because he's originally not from that tribe, but let's save the details for another time. He looks like a pretty friendly guy.
Seems like he has a history with Frida.

2) Frida: A petite Elafian researcher wearing a white lab coat over her deep blue Sami dress. She looks easily spooked, but is capable of holding her ground with no less grit than seasoned icefield expeditioners, who she often works with.
Seems like he has a history with Reifnir.

3) Mordval: A sprightly lad clad in black feathery garb with a mischievous glint in his emerald eyes. Unlike most Sami people, he readily interacts with outsiders, whose tools and gadgets he loves to play with.
Generally found in Leiknir's immediate vicinity.

4) Leiknir: An Elafian warrior with a permanent resting bitch face. While he's Reifnir's twin brother, he doesn't look anywhere near as friendly, but takes his duties towards protecting Sami just as seriously.
Generally found trying to make sure Mordval doesn't get himself into trouble.

Page 3 of the intro posts, featuring:

1) Hresvelgr: A dignified Sami warrior with sharp golden eyes, carrying an intimidating black axe-spear trimmed with gold. A respected figure in East Sami who's currently juggling the threats coming from Ursus, the Collapsals, and the changing times to ensure her people make it through. To help achieve this goal (and at the advice of her friend Santalla), she'd recently set her eyes on Rhodes Island.

2) Ragnhild: A lone hunter living in the woodlands in the eastern Sami borderlands. She knows the area inside out, and knows how to survive the harshness of the area, which is so often buffeted by ice storms and even Catastrophes, owing to its nature as the place in Sami closest to a major Originium vein.
Due to some personal connections, she's often running errands for Hresvelgr.

3) Eikthyrnir: Everybody's favourite incredibly fast-moving IS2 ending 2 boss. Widely considered to be the strongest warrior in Sami, he's also often voted the handsomest person in the region, as well as a long-time winner of the local Best Antlers award for several years running (PS. Only one of these claims is true).
Anyway he's one gritty fighter who will fight God himself to protect Sami, and also had a wife he loves very very much.

4) Heidrun: Eikthynir's wife, who's long gone by the time IS4 rolled around, but don't worry, she's still very present...as a death that haunts the narrative. But anyway. A kindly Elafian lady with long, soft silver hair and a gentleness reminiscent of Amma Herself, she's generally good-natured towards anyone (though it'd be wise to remember that she's still a Treescar warrior). She was part of her tribe's search-and-rescue team until one day she went missing while out on a search, and was never heard from again. Eikthyrnir never stopped blaming himself for her death, implied to have been caused by the Collapsals.

I helped consult on and designed a spread for the Lay of 9 Worlds tarot deck inspired by Norse mythology and everyday life back in 2019~

I wanted to provide an example of how tarot spread could address Norse divination concerns. The result is the diagram you see below: a nine-card Yggdrasil.

Cards are arranged like a tree. Starting from the top: 1, 6 2 7, 8 3 4 9, 5

Cards 1 through 5 represent Rattatosk's Path, and work as a sort of spread-within-a-spread:

1. Veðrfölnir: Bird's eye view of the spread, what the overall theme/message will be.
2. Verðandi: The Present - what is happening now.
3. What is distracting?
4. What is motivating?
5. Níðhoggr/Hvergelmir: What is simmering beneath the surface (of the reading/message)? What is gnawing at you?

Cards 6 through 9 show where you might go from there:

6. Urðr: Past/Fate/Ancestral Memory
7. Skuld: Future - What will be owed?
8. Urðarbrunnr: Potential - What can you learn?
9. Mímisbrunnr: Prowess - What will you learn?

1) I did expect some Vedrfolnir lore, but not this much. 2) I should've expected for his pupil not to have a vision and completely forgot to check if she had one during the AQ. 3) This is our fourth (iirc) source to channel elemental powers and I wonder if Train's powers came from the same one.
