From a Buddhist perspective, introspection (sati and vipassanā) is not self-analysis but direct seeing.
It is the practice of observing the mind as it moves—greed, irritation, compassion—without judgment or suppression.

I use a "Mindful" approach that is a combination of Mindfulness, Vipassana, and Wim Hof breathing techniques

This allows me to tune into my body and feels/symptoms so that I can identify things and take more-informed care of myself

helps sharpen the awareness
to subtle levels of experience
such as in the vipassana practice.

this is necessary for insight and deep healing.

I'd not realized, a favorite movie documenting a Goenka-style Vipassana meditation retreat conducted in a maximum-security Alabama prison is on Youtube. (Isn't a highest quality print, but appears to be most if not all of the documentary.)

after meditating in mountains, bathed in the energy of the west coast of scotland, samye ling is a compulsory stop on the journey. such an amazing place - a long sitting there was a really powerful and deep experience.

“Oh my God!” “God willing.” “God, please.” The ubiquity of that entity, God, emanates from the dispossessed and the wretched of the earth. But that word, God, arrives from the Ancient Yewamnya—that Pre-Proto-Karitic language now lost to time—gotr. The gotr is the invoker. Historically, as written by Shennin scholars of Ruonggu, Shen’s Capital City, the term Gotr (or gotar) invoked the Inttr (Inttar) or the God-King. The word therefore refers to the Highest Invoker. During the dominance of Kerajaan Mahabidara during the Classical Era, the term Gotar became synonymous with the Supreme Principle. The philosopher of Absolute Ideality Huoguo Sakat during that time professed the nonduality of the Invoker and the God-King, creating a new branch of mysticism which has since died out in favor of tantra practice, vipassana perfection, and inner alchemy. Due to the absolute influence of the Mandala Mahabidara, the term Gotar (quickly shortened to Got and eventually God, a linguistic shortening phenomenon common in Mahabidara’s capital city of Singgakutta--spread throughout the entirety of the Utter Islands. God became the term for the “Highest” or “Greatest” principle. In Eolomian societies God is Faceless, and to even present Them in an image was blasphemy--to even gender Them was finiting the infinite. In Yenjan societies God became the word to describe Yenja’s All-Loving. Perhaps more importantly, God became synonymous with Rutra, the Scarlet God. Therefore, whenever someone mentions “God” in the modern, Post-Calamity era, they are almost always referring to the absolute Rutra, the Supreme Oversoul, the Acintya, the Unimaginable, Inconceivable Supreme, the Ineffable.

On my first Vipassana course, after hours of sitting from 4am, we stopped for breakfast and filed out of the meditation hall in silence and down the stairs. At the window on the landing I stopped. The sun was rising and outside everything was sparkling - the rows of cabbages and clumps of flowers, the hedges and trees were all mesmerisingly beautiful. I felt filled with a joy I had never experienced before, that I was a part of everything. I couldn't stop staring and when I looked around other people were also around me gazing out over that shimmering garden as if seeing it for the very first time.

In 2024 I applied myself to vipassana meditation. I studied source texts and practiced daily. I went on a Goenka retreat. I had an insight which I am still unpacking. I begin a series of essays about meditation. This first essay provides a standard definition and grouping of meditation.

Good for you. I was born into a Christian family, Dad died at 37 praising God. I sought out answers. Went to the Dali Lama, was initiated by Hindu masters & meditated w/ them. Have completed a Vipassana sit of 10days of silence and 12
Hrs of meditation per day. Meditate on SELF. God will be there.
