we could award TEN TIMES AS MANY MARSDENS for a period of THIRTY YEARS and it would still cost less than a dumb extra motorway. There's already a road to whangarei and it's fine

Dunedin is bigger than Whangarei but its hospital had to be shrunk when it blew out by a billion. Same with our ferries. A road to Whangarei nearly doubles in price from 10 to $18b but that's OK. Why are roads costlier & preferable to hospitals? Bizarre.

Don't worry, Brynderwyns to Whangarei will never get built. There's just not that much traffic over the hill. This is about developing Wayby Valley-Mangawhai-Kaiwaka

i find this hilarious (1) in a country that lacks basic transit infrastructure - the train between auckland and hamilton literally only goes one direction at a time; and (2) there is already a road between auckland and whangarei, i drove it both ways 4x at christmas a couple years ago, it's fine

Yes. Of course. And it’s still gong even though the story says the batteries were undamaged. See also, Whangarei Hospital fire.

I have headed north to Whangarei. I much prefer this pace of life, and sort of traffic.

"Democracy Northland" will likely be behind this too - they've been distributing newsletters to letterboxes throughout Kaipara and Whangārei on a regular basis. Most of the content has an anti-Māori and anti-'woke' agenda. Check out their content: letterbox-nz.blogspot.com/search/label...

Just to note that this legally-bound-to-fail opposition cost the ratepayers at least $100,000 ... . I wonder if the "hate speech" was along the lines of "look, you egg, stop being such an egg!"

Whangārei is a dying/dead city culturally. The majority of our council is keep rates low boomers.
Their vision for the city is do nothing.

Oof, Whangārei results aren't great.
The good news is your rates probably aren't going to go up.
The bad news is you'll be lucky if the bread truck is even going up there in a year or two.

I’ll be a guest speaker at the Affordable Healthcare for All talk, speaking about the dire state of public healthcare in NZ (and how it must be re-built) on October 20, 6pm, in Whangarei.
It's a labour event, but open to any and all progressive people.

I have been to Whāngarei, eaten Burger King, (picked up my partner from the hospital - he doesn’t have anything they sent him there to test for), drove back to Kerikeri, visited local stores for some yummy dinner things, and now I am going to go home and collapse.

Partner managed to leave his phone in the car, so now I am on comms with everyone else with updates. He's stable, but being transferred to a larger hospital in Whangarei for more tests today.

Since we have just lost an amazing writer at 57 who is Māori, who once described the Whāngarei hospital to me as “frightening… those cracks in the system are gaping crevasses”, that last line is absolutely disgusting.
Read that last line again… #ToitūTeTiriti #nzpol 💔
“Key changes include shifting Health New Zealand's focus towards infrastructure, increasing national oversight, enshrining government health targets and to remove requirements for the health system to deliver equitable outcomes for Māori.”

… to something the courts won't prosecute because it's just stupid harassment and they're so overrun they're dropping anything that wouldn't make the 6 o'clock news rn.
Lesson learned: should've moved out of Whangārei a year sooner.
