'Despite the grave circumstances that put us on this journey, moments like this will be writ into my memory as some of the happiest I've ever known.'

The dusk had cast a palette of flame and mystery on the western face of Sohm Al. The scarlet and crimson of fading sunlight met with the haunting blue of the mountain's rich crystals, producing a scene that held Ahzuvi's attention captive—oblivious to Alphinaud's approach. The empty patch of grass beside her welcomed him, enticed him even. There was little question why he opted to share her company rather than sit through another argument on Ishgardian history; on any other journey, he would be elated to take part in such a debate. Clarifying a contentious history, and bringing about lasting peace after a millenia of war? If he wasn't so lost in his own mind, he would recognize the reason for the distraction for what it was. She was no longer 'his' warrior of light, who spent her waking moments fulfilling whatever plan he had come up with. She was now his closest friend, who had revealed to him a brilliant mind, gentle disposition, and a contagious sense of wonder about the world. But after their encounter with the primal Ravana, after Estinien rightfully chided him for putting Ahzuvi at risk /again/, something new gnawed at his chest with relentless persistence. The thought of losing her was unbearable, and he sought to express that still-nameless feeling somehow. "Mind if I sit with you?" "You may." Her response was one of warmth that put the spectacle of the sunset to shame. "I found something for you-" he announced boldly, forgetting every practiced dialouge he spent the day working on in his haste to hand his gift over. In his hand was a piece of crystal, and watched as her eyes fixated on it with a tangible curiosity. He could hear his heartbeat in his ear as he watched her hand reach up to his, fingers brushing his palm as she examined the stone. "...dravanian opal..." Her breath caught, her voice low enough it was only for him—at least, he would like to think of it that way. "You recognize it?" He picked it up from the mountainside some bells earlier, wanting to give her something to add to her collection of odd trinkets. He had no idea what it actually /was/, but now he was thanking each of the Twelve individually for the luck. "I do. It's a very beautiful sort of precious stone only found in Abalathian highlands..." It was endearing the way her fingers lingered on the stone, and he knew she was resisting picking it up entirely—she frequently needed explicit permission before accepting anything for herself. He nudged the rock into her hand, watching her eyes light up in awe. "Oh, it even has a flame!" She tilted the stone with a very precise angle so he could see, and sure enough the pale greens and blues flared with flecks of orange. "A beautiful one at that." "A flame?" His question was genuine, but more than anything he was just eager to hear her speak. Another charming development he'd discovered since the two had spent more time together was her passion for storytelling—something he had unintentionally overshadowed through his compulsive conversationalist habits. He once admitted a childish dream of his to one day visit Ishgard and see its faerie tale grandeur. She returned the favor by sharing her own childish dreams of chasing the sunset across the world, seeing all that Hydaelyn had to bear. "Some say these opals form when a dragon's flame melts the earth, and is recaptured within their tears." Ahzuvi glanced cautiously in the direction of Estinien and Ysayle, resuming only when she was satisfied they weren't close enough to overhear. "Or sometimes it's their blood, depending on who you ask..." "Were you to answer, which would you say?" "...Where I'm from, I learned the former. In truth, its formation is something much more mundane, but I still liked to believe the stories." "Correct me if I'm wrong—you're from Coerthas, but…I’ve noticed you don’t seem to harbor the same abhorrence of the dragons...?" He had been resisting the question, especially in the presence of their Ishgardian hosts. He wanted to sate his curiosity, and he wanted to know more about /her/, but he knew that anything related to her past was likely to be answered in vague terms. So he was surprised that she hesitated, and checked again to confirm their bickering companions weren’t nearby. It was the same defensiveness that he’d grown accustomed to—a guarded distance she had put up between herself and the world, but watched as it melted away when she returned her focus on him. “Not all of Coerthas faces the same ire of the dragons. Where I’m from, they were more of a fear than a foe. A lot of older towns still stood from before the war even began, older generations passing down different tales. Books that survived in family collections…” As the last of dusk’s light faded, Ahzuvi’s story had shifted to retellings of the verdant greens of a pre-Calamity Coerthas. Alphinaud was taken aback by how fondly she spoke of it—she painted a depiction of adventure worthy of the finest bardsongs, something she sounded even wistful for, enough that he was left wondering why she would be so averse to it. … She didn’t notice when exactly he fell asleep. The weight against her shoulder had been there for at least a full bell, but he was awake enough to be responding for a time. Realizing this, she settled again and fell back into silence, turning the opal over in her palm and examining every facet of its color. When armored footsteps approached, she looked up with mild irritation—even if he hadn’t been testing her patience today already, Estinien was an unwelcome visitor at this late hour. “At least our little lordling is sleeping, now.” Ahzuvi’s flat glare was cut off before she could respond, his tone softer this time. “But you should as well. I’m taking watch now. /You/ need rest.” “Didn’t realize I had a curfew.” “You do when you spend most of the day covered in toxic pollen and ochu acid.” She held no reservations arguing with the Azure Dragoon, but she didn’t have the energy or interest to bother this late at night. Nor did she want to wake Alphinaud. Ahzuvi accepted the defeat this time, and waited until Estinien had left before trying to settle in for the night. She easily could have carried Alphinaud back to their makeshift camp, but he seemed comfortable enough that she would feel bad moving him. The cold was another story. They didn’t keep a fire this night so as not to alert the resident dragons to their presence. As she was just starting to doze off while leaning back against him, she noticed the slightest tremors in his breath. His body followed moments later. Without hesitation, she risked waking him in an attempt to reposition—moving him to lay across her lap, giving herself room to lie down and curl her body just enough to guard his vitals from the frigid air. While not a roaring campfire, her body was always uncommonly warm even in the most bitter of snows. The shivering dwindled, and his body no longer tensed to conserve heat. Satisfied, she allowed herself a short nap. Long enough she wouldn’t have to hear from Estinien again. … Dawn illuminated the thick mist that curtained over the mountainside, and Alphinaud stirred when it became too bright to ignore. He froze when his eyes opened to Ahzuvi’s sleeping face only ilms away from him. The rest of his senses caught up, and he was keenly aware of how close they both were. She must have fallen asleep at some point…/he/ must have fallen asleep at some point, and that was embarrassing enough his face burned under a tinge of pink. More importantly than his wandering thoughts to their proximity, though, was noticing that her head was resting against solid, cold stone. Without second thought, he reached his arm out and carefully worked his hand to serve as a makeshift pillow for her. She didn’t wake, and he returned to slumber with the quietest sigh of relief. Of adoration.

In Solution Nine, Amille is anxious to talk to Gunita and Alphinaud again after so long. He finally is able to get everything to work and has a long discussion with the married couple.

That’s it for #wolphinaudweek2025! I really enjoyed doing it this way. I love writing like this but don’t do it enough & it’d be cool to continue, maybe do one w/ 🌙 rosie & g’raha next. I def recommend trying this type out yourself - it got me actually writing vs no energy for full fics 🙂‍↕️

Hearing the news of the Warrior of Light saving the world alongside his friends, which included Alphinaud, Gunita began to cry, feeling awful about the things that she had said about him. She didn't even know if she could face him once again, and all she could do was sob. Would she ever find love again? The makeshift accommodations that house the scattered Scions of the Seventh Dawn do exactly what they should. Provide a bed in which they can lay their heads after a day of pursuit against their newest threat - Calyx and his attempts to take the so-called key to interdimensional fusion for himself. With their unexpected number, Amaris and Alphinaud found themselves sharing one of the few small rooms and in turn, the bed inside of it. This isn't the first time they've shared sleeping accommodations, but the modest bed size only proves to make the pair acutely aware of the way their skin touches — the way that their bodies instinctively meld together amongst the perfectly tempered air that surrounds Solution 9. She's grateful for it. The skin on skin contact that reminds her she is distinctly here and absolutely, positively nowhere else. That reminder gives her the confidence to close her eyes despite the dull feeling of levin that swirls through her core — a physical reminder of her first "encounter" with Calyx. Shut eyes and attempts at dreams are swift to evade her as they have for days. If it was not the whispers from a life not her own — seemingly woken by the levin strike — it was the feeling of his methodical eyes on her form and in her mind. For all her strength, opening her eyes to escape the cycle is a feat not even she, strength of heart aside, can accomplish. "Amaris." It is Alphinaud's hushed voice that guides her through it. Like his words are a solvent on her soul, her eyes open with soft ease. "He isn't here. I promise." Alphinaud reassures her, pulling her body against him. She allows her body to melt into him, her arms firmly wrapped around his neck. "You don't know that." Amaris mutters against his skin, and deep down, she knows her words are true. Based on the way his grip on her tightens, he agrees. "If he is here, which he is not, I promise I will not let him hurt you." His words are firm and she believes him. The two are silent for a moment, their bodies pressed close together as if letting go meant something permanent. Amaris' eyes attempt to shut again, but like the sun rises and sets outside these electrope walls, the feelings and fears return. She shakes herself awake, her body untangling from Alphinaud's in the process. "I can't do it. I can't even sleep. If it isn't the feeling of him watching me, it's the screams of someone I don't know." She spits out in a whisper-yell that drips with exasperation — the beginnings of tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. "Amaris, please. I promise everything is fi-" Alphinaud begins, his hands pressed against her upper arms with intentions to ground her. "I need it to stop. I need it to go away..." She mutters before her eyes flit up to his own as an idea takes form in her head. "...can you...can we..?" Each phrase is separated by an increasingly calmer breath. "Anything. Anything at all that you need." The words are reverent as he looks at her in earnest, his thumbs rubbing circles against her skin. She can tell he isn't prepared for the request that leaves her lips. She finds that maybe she wasn't either — her mind following the desperate guidance of her heart. "Sex." The word sounds both foreign and comfortable on her tongue. "I want to have sex." She repeats it, breathless yet clear. Alphinaud's eyes widen and she feels the way his hands instinctively move to hover against her upper arms. "I..." He mulls his words over. "Are you sure that is what you want?" His cadence is uneven — a metaphorical courel grabbing at his tongue. "I would not want you to make a decision like this in haste." It isn't a faerietale way to spend your first moments with your partner, she knows that. In a strange place and under even stranger circumstances, it is a far cry from the rose petals and warm candles the books say she'd have. In spite of it, she doesn't care. "Yes." Amaris whispers, her body still as a means to give him the space to choose. He would offer her each star in the skies of the Source and beyond, but she would not dare accept without knowing it made him happy to give them to her. "If that is something you want..." Her quietness isn't for lack of resolve, but even the strongest of warriors shake in vulnerability. Alphinaud pulls her in, gentle as his arms circle around her. "I cannot promise it will help." He whispers against her neck. "You are my first." He admits like she does not know. "And you are mine." She replies, her fingers clenched against his shirt. Amaris pulls away enough to look at him, his pupils blown in a way that likely matches her own. "I want it to be you..." She says, her fingers still tight against him. " '..if you want me, of course." The phrase that slips from her lips is to make it clear. Only if he wants to, only if he wants it to be her — only if he is ready too. "I do." Alphinaud replies as gently pulls her back into him, their foreheads pressed together before he maneuvers her into his arms. As his body slots comfortably above hers, his eyes graze over her as his free hand gently runs up her side. "You are sure?" He asks. Amaris' hand reaches up to cup at his cheek as she replies with a soft nod - the gesture sweet in a way that almost makes her believe she's in that theoretical faerietale. In truth, when she is with him. She is. "Never been this sure of anything." She whispers, the truth of her words a reassurance to both him and her. As his lips meet hers, she shuts her eyes and for the first time in days — the only image, the only sound, the only anything in her mind's eye is him.

Wishes become reality as Gunita and Alphinaud sit on the beach, watching the sun rise from the Mist's beach. The morning would be Gunita's favorite time since the smell of the salty sea would be most noticeable, despite her hating touching the water. (I know the sun is setting technically but shhhhh) As she looked up into the sky, she saw a stream in the sky, a small one right inside of the galaxy of stars. She gasped as she pointed with her free hand to the shooting star, still visible to the both of them. “Ah! Look Alphie! A shooting star~!” He would blink, as he looked up to the heavens. Indeed, there was a shooting star careening down the dark blue sky. He would smile to her, "They say that if you see one, you can make a wish upon it, and it will come true." Of course, that seemed incredibly sentimental for him, but... It didn't hurt to try. He would close his eyes, as he would imagine a future of the two spending much more time... And he would gather the courage to express his true feelings.
