Lao Feng gave him a wry glance as he stood from the bedside. “If he was calling for something like that, Ying-er, he was calling for Yiling Laozu, not Wei Wuxian.”

Wei Wuxian flinched. “Is there a difference?”

Lao Feng shrugged. “To many, no. To those who matter, yes.” He gave Wei Wuxian a serious look. “We all sometimes do what’s necessary, even if it’s hard. Especially when it’s right. Try not to listen to those who want to make you into a monster. When it comes time to count up the merits, the Jade Emperor will know who to reward and who to punish.”

Wei Wuxian huffed out a laugh. “You make it sound like you know him.”

As if focusing on his partner can bring other details into sharper focus, Riddle discovers that the rumble of Floyd’s snores does in fact drown out the creaking of the ship, and that the rise and fall of his chest distracts him from the ‘motion of the ocean’, as the man himself had called it earlier.
Even now, Floyd is Riddle’s stable rock, standing in the turbulent sea of his life.

Milverton sighed and threw on his coat, ushering William back out the door and into his waiting carriage as quickly as possible. With Sherlock bored and presumably still caseless, there was every chance of him also showing up unannounced, and he could not have that. If nothing else, these two enemies must never meet. And if he had to suffer the grandstanding of one of his least favorite MPs in order to avoid such a meeting, so be it.
The elder Moriarty at least had the grace to look apologetic. Albert tipped his hat toward him in greeting.
"I did try to get him to send a card, but he assured me the invitation had been given in person."
"Lord Moriarty," Milverton tipped his hat and nodded in return. "I believe the last we saw each other was—"
"The Prince's Masquerade Ball...at Buckingham."
"Indeed. Such a shame about Baron Rollinson."
Albert blinked at him. "Who?" he asked blithely.
Milverton's eyes narrowed. It would be funny if Lord Moriarty didn't always wear such a dead-eyed stare. Milverton could never tell if he was joking.
"The one who you poisoned," he replied.
"Hmm...Do you know, my cleaners were never quite able to get that wine stain out."

He got off his crate as he considered. “I mean…” His boots joined her own in her field of vision, then moments later, he reached and plucked her cup from her, depositing it to the side of her crate. “Maybe you can.”

“Uh” - he was close to her now, and he had a look in his eye; a look she recognised from their dalliance by the coolant valves, and from seconds before every order he’d ever given to run, or fire, or blow the whole damn place up - “How?”

“Call me ‘sir’.” His voice was pitched somewhere between an order and a request.

“On purpose?!”

Alex orders a double whisky, neat, from the open bar and tries not to look like he’s sulking while he sips at it, his back turned to the room. It’s a while before someone slides up next to him, and he’s down to his final dregs of whisky when they finally speak.

It wasn’t often that one of his questions totally stumped her, but all she managed in reply was a defeated shrug and a half-hearted, “My dad took up painting when he retired.”

“This the same guy who, even now, shoots laser beams at aliens on a semi-regular basis?”

“Jack…”

“How is Jacob’s water-colour collection coming along? He gets a lot of downtime in the Tok’ra Resistance, does he?”

Roy lets out a chuckle, voice warm and smooth and happy sounding. "My apologies. I'll stay on as long as you'd like. I was only thinking about how the first train from Creta towards Central leaves at ten in the morning. And if you were to catch that train—if and only if you're ready to leave that soon—then you'd get in early Sunday morning and I could pick you up from the station and take you out for breakfast. If that sounds like a plan that would interest you at all, that is."

Ed's eyes fly open from where they'd drifted closed momentarily, mouth agape as he stares into the receiver as though he can see Roy through all the little holes. "You... Did you memorize the train schedules?"

Declan points out some interesting food stalls for them to try and then goes to order for them when they decide. He smiles and ends every other sentence with a friendly “- la!”, but his voice is quickly lost in the surrounding buzz of activity as they go to find a table.

The love of his life, the person who epitomized romance, and championed writing love letters was standing there in his home, looking like the love interest in a classic romance movie while equating him with romanticism. Stede goes over to the cameras—he’s got a few set up for coverage of different angles, luckily Pete is an editing whiz—before going over to the deck chair to sit and wait. There are some papers and folders on the desk, for some degree of verisimilitude.

He waits the five minutes, jiggling his leg. Finally, once enough time has passed, he takes a deep breath and then calls, “Action!”

Ed knocks on the door.

“Who is it?”

“It’s, er—Jeff! Your secretary!”

“You can come in!”

Ed opens the door, and Stede’s mind goes completely blank, likely because all the blood in his body is rushing well south of his brain.

Stede’s not sure what he thought Ed would wear, but he never dreamed it would be this.
