Me: oh okay so XSLT supports JSON? maybe "atproto XSLT can just be ACTUAL XSLT!"

wow... this is super not viable as a technology here.

All the same, this issue is important to a few of us and we don’t feel heard.
If you could present my concern over XSLT I’d appreciate it. I’ll even make the case directly at the meeting if that would be better.

A small group of developers are negative about it, but most don't care. We polled devs about Interop features recently (interop-rank.jakearchibald.com) and the XSLT proposal landed near the very bottom.

In my first two jobs we used XSLT as a templating engine producing XHTML. In fact, I joined the 2nd company specifically because I already had solid XSLT experience. Those were the days! That constant tension between two camps: declarative/functional apply-templates camp vs imperative for-eachs, lol
Deprecating XSLT in browsers. Chrome plans to remove XSLT (the XML transformation language) due to low usage and security risks. Deprecation starts in version 143, full removal in 155. WHATWG, Firefox, and Safari expressed support. #browser #chrome

so the way I want to use sub-pages is to collect the pages that collect the bluesky threads I write about my articles: top level page, The Stack, subpages on Talos and OpenStack and Flatcar and so on, one per article, next top level page The New Stack, subpages XSLT and ES2016 and Baseline and so on

We can do JSLT! It's like XSLT but it's JSON so it's ✨better✨
ahahahaha just kidding could you imagine?
No, it's going to be DSSSL again. So I hope you like parenthesis.

Lol not yet, though I did move my site to 11ty a while back in preparation so it shouldn't take long. I'll make sure my RSS feed is styled (sans XSLT 😉) for all these people loading XML in their browsers.

listen, if there's ever something you know how to do, but don't want to ever have to do, just don't tell people you know how to do it. like writing XSLT, or replacing a toilet, or being brave around a really big bug

If vendors can’t be bothered to enforce web standards or are trying to rip them out (XSLT, e.g.) no matter how many millions will be affected, then user behavior is not the problem.
The vendors are the problem.

heh analogous to what i'm dealing with right now with google nixing xslt from chrome: they control 80% of the screens so if they don't feel like paying to fix the bugs in the implementation they've been coasting on for a decade and a half, they can just unceremoniously erase it from the standards

the issues with XSLT continue: the maintainer of libxml2 has stepped down (and plans to continue working on an AGPL fork which I'm sure every Linux distro with this in the build chain will have thoughts about). the new maintainer of libxsltc plans to help out but...

Some days I miss XML. It's too verbose for my taste, but I miss proper XPath and XSLT. Back in the days, it simplified my work not once, not twice.

There are a lot of good things about XML, but whatever mad person came up with the idea of using XML to encode transformations of XML should seek care immediately.
Put more directly: XSLT is the worst.
(I still remember doing this kind of programming in Blogger templates, and hated it then too.)
