Everything he’s done has been in service to their happiness and well-being. Perhaps… perhaps they did end up convincing him, but not in the way they wanted. Maybe, once again, he just did it to make them happy, even if he didn’t actually want to. Maybe it was all a lie they told themself because they were too caught up in their feelings to see the truth. That they used him. That they hurt him for their own gain. And now the pain in their chest returns, stronger than ever, making their breath come short and shaky. Hot tears fall from their eyes. They stifle their sobs in their pillow as best they can. In reaching for the one thing they wanted most, they hurt the one person they cared about more than anything else in this world. So many years he’s spent caring for them, teaching them, loving them – and this is how they repay him. They wish they could take back tonight, undo everything and just live with the knowledge that he would be happier that way. If it meant his happiness, they would take it all back. They would go right back to that moment in their village when he took them in and tell him to take Hakon or someone with some fucking sense. *You’ll always be my kit.* They wish that were true.
