The history of Osaka Abenobashi is super interesting! It's so cool how you're connecting that to the spa and massage industry there! Very clever! I bet a lot of people find it super helpful when they're looking for a relaxing spot.

im sure abenobashi shopping arcade wouldn't hold up to modern day, but i absolutely LOVED that anime even i was little. i loved the dvd boxset we had because the subtitles literally had tl notes every single scene because there would be a million references

theres slight discourse on The Summer Hikaru Died dub having no Southern accents. but like has there been any other anime that's set in rural/kansai japan that has had a fully southern accented dub? the only one i can think of is abenobashi shopping arcade and that anime is like what? 25 years old?

And TBH it *does* give me the vibes of "Oh you thought it was pervy fan service and absurdist jokes that were getting increasingly sweaty and desperate BUT SURPRISE it's really about trauma!" a la Abenobashi.

On a whim I started watching DanDaDanDan last night. I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting but it wasn't... that.
Granted, I'm only half-way through season 1, so I guess we'll see where things go but I was more than half expecting it to pivot to something close to FLCL or Abenobashi.
