With the 1100/1300 at the end of its life, it was logical that Innocenti should build a version of its successor, the Austin Allegro. Introduced in 1974 under the Innocenti Regent name as a 1500cc saloon, it hoped to be an Alfasud rival, but sadly the project quickly foundered.

Originally launched in 1971 and much lauded by the motoring press at the time, the Alfasud had been facelifted in 1980, gaining a new dashboard, lamps and plastic bumpers. The 3-door hatchback version, shown behind in SC form, had been phased in first, during 1981.

Very late in its life, Alfa Romeo's Alfasud appeared in 5-door hatchback form for 1982, replacing the previous 4-door. This Dutch brochure shows it in luxury 1.5 Gold Cloverleaf trim. It was curious timing as the car's successor, the 5-door Alfa 33, would arrive the following year. #weirdcarbs🧵

I had a 2 litre Beta Coupé. I quite liked it, although for an Italian car it was a bit of a tank. My previous car had been an Alfasud, which was much more refined.
Of course, both rusted like buggery.
