Logarithm rules, monotonic and exponential functions, allometry etc but it’s like multiple things together and they made these ones pretty hard 😭

And as always, my lecture covered metabolic allometry and the correct analysis of metabolic data for animals with different body masses. Of course, unlike the legacy companies, we will never divide metabolic data by body mass, disproven since 1849! 2/2

Dumas et al. used long-term data on Alpine #swifts, traditionally described as monomorphic, to test for temporal changes in sexual dimorphism (SD) and allometry. They found small but persistent SD, temporal changes in SD, and negative allometric scaling in both sexes:

Agreed. Deeper mandibles tend to be associated with males of species with larger harems - and dimorphism is not tied to allometry with larger body sizes - in other words, otariids don't follow Rensch's rule. I discuss this relationship a bit in the blog post

so I suspect that that is an effect of sexual dimorphism and perhaps body size/allometry. C. gilmorei is a gracile Pliocene 'dwarf' form (black mandible = male, above female specimen). T. mexicanus specimen shown also female - here's a male mandible for comparison:

A very interesting and clever study which explores how change is distributed between anagenesis and cladogenesis (gradual vs punctuational change) in the light of brain-body size allometry in modern primates.
