I’m getting a paucity of information from my searches on how long a synopsis should be. Should it be 1000 words? 500 words? One of each to cater to agents preferences?

Is there such a thing as too many IDs in one books to be trad pubbed? I can't help but write the quintessential red shirt without the death part. Multiple marginalized IDs. And I've tried really hard to do One. or Two. at a time, but that's not me... Something leaks. #WritingCommunity #AskanAgent

I don't get why agents like to say, "Don't front load", but then at the same time the same agents are saying things like "Give me only 1 chapter". #Askanagent #amquerying #WritingCommunity "Follow 3-act" And then... "But nothing happened." O.o; Which is it? Make up your mind.

Next step is to find the agents - hashtags like #MSWL (manuscript wish list) or #askanagent are useful ways to find out which agents are open to submissions and what they're interested at the moment. You can also check the bio of the agent and find their agency website for more leads.

I have a friend who has a YA manuscript ready to go on sub to agents. Most agents don’t ask for a synopsis but a few do, but they don’t define what length or scope for that synopsis. Agents, what say you? Are we talking 3-5 paragraphs or 3-5 pages, here?

I’ve gone down trad pub route for both poetry and novels as to me it offers best reach. But based on interviews we’ve shared through Write On! self-publishing works too. My sense though, is that it’s success is very much personal network and genre dependent -crime, romance, SFF etc.
