1/ The microscopic image of a PAS stain demonstrates a renal (cholesterol) atheroembolus, which is seen lodged at, and occluding, the vascular pole of a glomerulus leading to ischemic wrinkling and mild shrinkage of the tuft.

Worsening renal function after a carotid endarterectomy. Atherosclerotic plaque gets dislodged and the pieces form emboli; typically in those with severe PVD & can arise spontaneously or after invasive vascular procedure. #atheroembolus #renalpath #pathsky #nephsky #medsky
