Callistemon (Melaleuca) phoeniceus (scarlet bottlebrush)
Native to my state. Flower spike is about 9.5cm (4") long comprising 75-100 florets. Heavy nectar production and everything, bees, birds, furry Aussie natives, absolutely love them.

Get Down n Dirty

Aussie native (I think) that is a voracious and relentless ground cover. Surprising what you can find at ground level; didn't know it flowered. The flower spike is about 10cm (4") long.

I live in a complex of 4 units, each a single-occupier. I'm a retired old fart, the other folk are ladies and between us we keep our common area garden looking pretty decent. When I buy a plant I record as much info as I can into a database, for reference. When the ladies buy a plant they shove it into the ground, call it good, and retire to drink a glass or two of wine. Bottom line is I have no idea what this plant is except that I think it's an Aussie Native (possibly grevillea), which means it's as tough as old boots and looks pretty meh! When you get down to ground level it's a totally different story.

The image contains about a dozen flower heads comprising about dozen florets each; although Mother Nature being the original math nerd demands the number of florets will probably be an odd/prime number and/or on the Fibonacci sequence. Each floret is predominantly Candy Pink with white tips and an occasional dark grey/blue structure. The leaves (very dark green) remind me of marine polyp structures along a central spike (branch). The entire bush is little more than 25cm high by 40cm wide (10x16 inches).

Local Plants: Eucalyptus macrocarpa

I would never have picked this to be a member of the Eucalyptus family. Endemic to SW-Coastal areas of Western Australia.
