Moins d'une heure plus tard, les responsables de I'armée israélienne ont affirmé que leurs soldats avaient « identifié un terroriste traversant la ligne jaune. » Il demeure incertain que cette déclaration visait la petite fille, toutefois, cette rhétorique a été utilisée a plusieurs reprises par l'armée israélienne suite aux meurtres d'enfants palestiniens.

According to Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, Israel continues to illegally seize Gaza's territory by shifting the yellow line daily. Palestinians living close to its border report daily attacks and shelling, as well as a continuous movement of the line. "Inside this [Yellow Line]... responsibility for killing shifts to the victim, punished for returning to their own neighborhood" (Euro Med Human Rights Monitor) In December, three-year-old Ahed al-Bayok was reportedly shot and killed by Israeli forces in al-Mawasi near Khan Younis, on the Gaza side of the Yellow Line. Within the same hour, the Israeli military claimed its soldiers had “identified a terrorist who crossed the Yellow Line.” Whether this statement referred to the toddler remains unclear; however, similar language has repeatedly been used by the Israeli military following its shooting of Palestinian children. Israel's genocide and siege of Gaza never ended. The so-called "cease-fire" and Yellow Line merely conceal Israel's atrocities from the view of the global public, acting as a fraudulent promise to the international community and to Palestinians that the genocide is over. Through the ongoing theft of land and denying Palestinians access to their homes and right to rebuild, Israel is carrying forward its systematic effort to erase the Palestinian people.

A male Babaylan is called Bayok. In the early 11th Century, the Srivijaya Kingdom (Indonesia) fell to the invasion of the Tamil kings (South India). The Chola Dynasty conquered Sumatra. One of the Chola princes was Sri Lumay who established the Rajahnate of Cebu (Philippines). His descendants became chieftains and spiritual leaders of Bohol (a nearby island province). One of them was Tamblot, a prominent Babaylan of Bohol who led the uprising in 1621-1622 against the European colonizers. Tamblot was assassinated in his sleep. Today, he is represented in the Provincial Flag of Bohol, together with another Chola descendant, Datu Sikatuna.
