That seems to be the logic, but why? For example, why would beryllium be critical? It's little used in modern tech, partly because it's so toxic.

'Critical' is a strong descriptor. What would collapse without beryllium? Why would we be short of it? (Used to be mined is South Australia. Still?)

With a beryllium tamper, the critical mass of plutonium in an admixture with polyethylene is approximately 200 g at an H/Pu atomic ratio of 900:1. This would be a sphere of diameter 22 cm mass 5 Kg. 200 g of plutonium is the size of a large cherry tomato.

O, I was waiting for the material early eyeglasses were made of: Beryllium. The Germans shortened this to „Brille“. Since I learned that I always ask myself: where did I put my Beryllium?

Warriors of Cybertron Sludge 🦕

The least intellectually gifted of the Dinobots, Sludge sees others - friends or foes - as beryllium baloney, and it's this delusional obsession that makes him a terrifyingly effective warrior. He'll do anything for a bite.

Ah les voyageurs temporels. J'adore les attraper et casser le crystal de béryllium sous-cutané derrière leur épaule pour les coincer définitivement dans notre époque pourrie. Celui-ci a été trop rapide

i enjoy that beryllium is one of those elements that acts kinda sorta like an element your body wants but absolutely fucking isn't one so it just gets stuck in there and then it kills you. thanks beryllium. thankfully its not a problem unless you work in airplane manufacturing

beryl is a beryllium aluminum silicate mineral, that comes in a variety of colors, most of which are used as gems, while also being an economically valuable mineral as the main ore of beryllium.

if all the good materials like beryllium and asbestos are so toxic maybe its humans that are the issue, we should just eat a bunch of asbestos and arsenic to build up a tolerence. if we convince people it works the rich people will do it first

It’s the nature of aerospace gear. Beryllium is a wonder material. Shame about the toxicity.

billions of years floating through space getting bombarded by cosmic rays can create chemistries we humans can hypothesize and model

we humans standing atop each others’ shoulders over time know how Beryllium (Be), Boron (B), and Gold (Au) exist
(remarkably)

being wrong => progress !
