(3) The study clearly overstates the role of contemporary bilingualism. It is true that a large majority of Swedish speakers (not all though) have a good command of Finnish, but only a minority of Swedish speakers produce Finnish without a revealing phonological accent. 👇🏻

I wouldn't vote NDP as they're a shadow of the party I remember and in no way prepared to lead anything. The CPC are socially conservative, anti-science, anti-immigration, anti-environment, anti-bilingualism, anti-everything uniquely Canadian Trumpy fascists, so no.

Bilingualism in say, English and French, would be treated very differently by Lam, I’d venture to guess.

And I don't want to live near anybody who is opposed to bilingualism so it's "totally reasonable" for me to stay away from THIS group of J.D. Vances too.

It turns out that being #korean - #english #bilingual at a young age can kind of mess up your head -- same as any bilingualism, but it's worse under the pressure of school and social conformity. #linguistics #ESL

Red Deer has French immersion schools and a Francophone school. But MLA Jason Stephan doesn't support these parents or students and wants Alberta to be exempt from bilingualism.

As you may be aware, I am a proponent of bilingualism (and multilingualism) and this is important in the world that we live in today. There was a great opinion piece on bilingualism in The Korea Times today looking at its advantages. So do check it out at www.koreatimes.co.kr/opinion/voic...

I absolutely thought of your comments about how Canadians conceive of bilingualism while reading this. There’s also a ton of multicultural food and snack content and of course delightful romance drama.

Hard to believe a US VP wouldn’t be on board with the cognitive benefits of bilingualism or multilingualism but okay.
There also bottom line benefits to a bilingual workforce and citizenry.

That's interesting because as you might know bilingualism (French and English) is very important in Canada, including in the education system. One of my former bosses in Japan was Canadian and we had a good talk about it once.

Is there a term similar to subtractive bilingualism but for culture? Like how study abroad leaves you less able to take the norms of your first culture for granted, which makes you less functional in that culture
