#MolluscMonday Balanced on a wall beneath the ice-cream parlour at Aubeterre (Charente, France) is a fossil of the large rudist bivalve Hippurites, probably collected from a local field underlain by Campanian limestones.

One of my favorite marine snails on the Georgia coast, the knobbed whelk (Busycon carica), a bivalve-killing predator that lives in sandy shallow-marine environments, but is occasionally seen buried (by its burrowing) in intertidal zones. 🧪🌊🐌

I go with "snailevangelist" so I can spread the good news about the general awesomeness/ importance of snails and other mollusks to the amantellate (non-mollusk) masses.

Monorails are the best. The world is your bivalve with a 4x5 monorail. Any old lens. All the movements. Seemingly infinite focus ranges.
bellows with a light leak and an as-is copal shutter and my man z, @behindthebluemotel.com , has peer pressured me into borrowing a fuller 4x5 for a little bit…

"The derivation is (...) likely to come from the fuller version of the phrase, now rarely heard – ‘as happy as a clam at high water’. Hide tide is when clams are free from the attentions of predators; surely the happiest of times in the bivalve mollusc world."

Typically, bivalve locomotion is vertical, using their momentum to drift short distances to escape predation. Horizontal movement is incredibly rare! Very little is known as to how they move. They have only been observed doing so from June - July, and again in october. [3/?]

They are incredibly common all along the US eastern seaboard. They are an important food source across the country, not just on "Family Guy."
While bivalve locomotion isn't unheard of, it was discovered that the hard clam can "walk" along the sediment. [2/?]

Today's aquatic friend is; Mercenaria mercenaria, the Hard Clam! Also known as a Quehog [co-hog], these bivalve mollusks grow up to 5" in length. Adults lose their ability to move, adopting what is known as a sessile lifestyle! [1/?]
