One more #kingfisher we were lucky enough to see in the #Pantanal. The #RingedKingfisher is like a super-sized belted kingfisher. They range through most of South America and up to the southern tip of Texas. Unfortunately, I was fighting dim evening light here. #brazilbirds #avesbrasil 🌿🪶🇧🇷

This lovely #greenkingfisher was found in the #Pantanal, not far from the last posted Amazon kingfisher. Species range includes Mexico, Central & South America, and also extends into parts of Arizona & Texas. It's smallish at about 2/3 the size of the belted kingfisher. #brazilbirds #avesbrasil 🌿🪶🇧🇷

This character was found at the edge of the Brazilian Cerrado thanks to its loud whinnying song. I love its descriptive name--white-eared puffbird. Seems quite appropriate given its puffed-up appearance! 🪶🌿🇧🇷 #brazilbirds #avesbrasil #birdinginbrazil #whiteearedpuffbird

Several different species of #Ibis were seen on our recent visit to the #Pantanal in #Brazil. Here's four of them distinguished by their large decurved bills, perfect for probing soft ground and mud for invertebrates and other small critters. One of the prettiest finches we saw in the #Cerrado of #Brazil. But hang on a minute, after doing a little checking, it turns out this *red-crested finch* is currently classified as a #Tanager thanks to recent phylogenetic analyses.

Burrowing owls live in grasslands, deserts and other open habitats such as the Brazilian Cerrado, where this individual was found perched next to its burrow. They are daytime hunters, preying mainly on insects and small rodents. #owl #burrowingowl #brazilbirds #avesbrasil 🇧🇷 🪶 🌿

A new bird species of Tinamou has been discovered in Brazil. Unfortunately, it does not seem to fear humans.

Although threatened by habitat loss and illegal trapping, Brazil is still home to around 35 named parakeet species. On our recent trip to the country, my DW and I were delighted to spot several of these lovely birds, four of which are seen here (named in ALT text). #avesbrasil #brazilbirds 🇧🇷 🪶

Brazil is home to ~20 species of #toucans, the highest number of any country. Catching images of 3 of these iconic tropical #birds on a recent trip was a thrill: the chestnut-eared aracari, toco toucan & channel-billed toucan. Each sport their own distinct bill colours. #avesbrasil #brazilbirds

A Red-necked Tanager (Tangara cyanocephala - "blue-headed dancer"), smart enough after a day of rain to seek shelter under a leaf, at the wonderful Ninho da Cambacica Lodge near Ubatuba, Brazil. #birds #birdsoftheworld #brazilbirds #red-neckedtanager #nikon www.felzfotoz.com

Midpoint of the trip and I'm exhausted! So having a siesta.
A good morning out though with nice views of Collared Crescentchest & Rusty-backed Antwren, and a huge movement of noisy Biscutate Swifts the highlights.

It's getting late, so barely started on my many blurry pics of Lear's Macaws from this evening, but here's four, including one of a bird with a striking single white tail feather.

Thanks to those at #Canudos who made a special effort when things started to conspire against me.

Constant birding and traveling have left me with barely the energy for "essential admin" of an evening, so a siesta gives the chance of a catch up

Silvery-cheeked Antshrike
Pectoral Antwren
Red-shouldered Spinetail
Stripe-backed Antbird

First three are Brazilian endemics

Araripe Manakin!!!!
The number reason for me opting for NE Brazil.
Despite only having been described to science in 1997 and being classified as Critically Endangered, it's absolutely guaranteed at Arajara Water Park, where the hordes of normal people are only allowed in at weekends.

A few shots of the Pedra dos Ventos Pygmy Nightjar, yesterday afternoon.
The single White-browed Guan was less cooperative.
Both species are endemic to NE Brazil.

Moustached Woodcreeper, Gould's Toucanet, Band-tailed Manakin (unfortunately couldn't find a male) & Pale Baywing (not exactly a stunner, but a Brazilian endemic) among today's #Brazilbirds lifers (11 in total)
All targets tried for so far have been seen.
Which is nice.

With a population of around c500 individuals, Grey-breasted Parakeet is the number one target in the Serra do Baturite, to which it is endemic. Very nice to easily connect with about a dozen so far.
Also gaudy glamour from Rufous-tailed Jacamar & Red-necked Tanager.
