Yesterday I went for my pre “marathon-of-sitting-to-write-reports” walk in the nearby bird hotspot. I’d seen reports of snow buntings and horned grebes.
Saw neither, but had a lovely hike and heard one that was a lifer in the last few years: greater yellow legs! Noisy, leggy peep. Gull was noisier…

Still ticking over on the ringing front - at least until the afternoon when the ever-increasing wind became too much of an issue. 41 new birds included another 16 Redpolls that takes their annual total into three figures - previous highest year total only 24! 5 more Reed Buntings best of the rest.

A rare vagrant in California. The sharply pointed and attenuated rectrices indicate an immature (formative plumage) and the all dark primary coverts and alula indicate a female.

Afternoon wander around Orcombe Point & Sandy Bay looking for migrant birds. Very few birds seen, highlights being a pair of Cirl Buntings & a Peregrine chasing a lone Woodpigeon over the sea.
A single Clouded Yellow butterfly was a lovely to see.

🚜 We have to record the farmland habitats we are surveying. Had trouble in one section working out if the farmer was actually *trying* to grow something, or if it was just fallow. It looked boring but that was where the Skylarks and Corn Buntings were!
