Fun for me. Hope it was for the audience. There were a few important points made amongst the shenanigans too #carto2025
Our final talk slot of the day was handed to the entertaining Ken Field who bought us maps, music and a tour around his beloved hometown of Nottingham.
At least one thing we all agreed to in the room was that not all maps need a north arrow

Our final session was a panel discussion on the future of geospatial visualisation with host David Sherran, BCS President Paul Naylor and guests Julian Williams, Helen McKenzie and Leanne Hughes.
A thought provoking end to two great days.

It's been 35yrs since I worked at BGS when I vowed never to be a cartographer. Technically, I've never had a job with 'cartographer' in the title so I kinda held myself to that promise. Good to be back today for #carto2025 though.

Such varied evidence of how to map “estates” and what that could mean in the talk “Mapping the Estate” by Julian Williams at the University of Westminster.
Some in depth research shown across all the design elements that come together to have made these maps.

Scroll through for the oxbow lake map changes example! And a great example of how survey dates affect the look of some of the maps. All of us who’ve studied any sort of geography love these features ❤️

Thank you to the organisers for arranging a lovely meal at Brown’s, Nottingham last night.
It was a pleasure to spend time with so many like minded cartographers and form those friendships that last longer than the two days a year we spend with each other!!
