The current lack of background options is more of an issue than the way that backgrounds work. As we get more options, the restriction will stop being frustrating and it will become more interesting.

I don’t assume magic items in my dnd build guides because I can’t assume that they’re available in every dnd game. If a build doesn’t work without a specific magic item, then the build isn’t useful for most players.

How do we draw aggro in dnd? There aren’t a ton of mechanical options for it, but the concept of “aggro” doesn’t make much sense in a game where enemies are actually thinking rather than executing a programmed response.
