Many of them enjoyed climbing around on Maximilian sunflower and feeding on the sweet “extra-floral nectar” those plants produce from small glands along their stems. (photo d'un bébé araignée) Here’s one of hundreds of minuscule lynx spiderlings that hatched from the above eggs. (photo d'un scarabée faisant ployer un tournesol sous son poids) This weevil girdled the stem below this sunflower causing it to tip over and start to wilt. That discourages other insects from laying eggs in it, reserving the flower for eggs/larvae of the weevil. (photo de deux collemboles) These springtails (Collembola) were only a millimeter or two long.

Found a way to get half-decent pictures of my springtails without scaring them into hiding! Here's a herd of collembola grazing on bell pepper in their enclosure. I deploy these fellas as cleanup crew into both my isopod bin and terrarium, so the main colony needs to be well-fed!

A mid-snack temporary cold-induced stupor allowed me time to capture these water droplets resting on the springtails hydrophobic (water proof) skin.

I was photographing a globular springtail (Dicyrtomina saundersi) in the garden, when a juvenile "elongate" springtail came scurrying into view. Remarkably, they're both reasonably in focus with this single shot. Two for the price of one! #collembola #mesofauna #macro #photograph

Finally got some isopods and springtails! T. tomentosa "Dwarf White" and Collembola sp. "Tropical White". Currently enjoying cucumber slices and oak litter while I prep colony bins. These tiny fellas will be the backbone of my tree frog enclosure!

Nice surprise today with the northernmost English record for Monobella grassei (approx location = Green dot)
Hopkin Checklist places it as 'MODERATELY COMMON IN SOUTHERN ENGLAND', though since then, many more records have populated the map across the midlands.

The rear end of a small, bright orange poduromorph springtail, its head out of focus and reaching into a crevace of the bark it sits on. Distribution map of M. grassei sourced from NBN Atlas, showing records mostly around southern england, some more appearing further into the midlands, though stopping entirely around Sheffield. A green dot is placed over Rochdale, in the north of Greater Manchester. The only records north of this are sparce, and come from the Republic of Ireland and the Glasgow + Edinburgh regions of Scotland.
