#confabulation
Super happy to receive my first paper in French, with @kmurphyhollies.bsky.social and @matteomameli.bsky.social, on confabulation and conspiracy theories, in a book entitled “Les fables de l’homme”. Thanks David Simonin for leading the project and translating the paper. #philsky #philpsy

Yes. You heard him actually retell the story while telling the story!

Confabulation!

Purest senile confabulation.

I also want to add that “confabulation” is often prevelent as it relates to dementia. I never argued w him or told him he was wrong, and in fact, it’s quite healthy for them if you enter THEIR reality and “play along”, even if you know it’s NOT real. It reduces THEIR stress, with LOVE. ❤️
Super important. One thing I sincerely pride myself on is that I never lost my “cool” w my father in law, even in moments of severe agitation on his part that lasted for hours. A little compassion goes a long way.
People with dementia can understand tone of voice, body language and touch even in late stages of the disease. A communication researcher explains how caregivers can preserve their loved one's sense of personhood through everyday conversations.

I like this for a definition of #AI 👇🏻

Confabulation is a memory error consisting of the production of fabricated, distorted, or misinterpreted memories about oneself or the world. It is generally associated with certain types of brain damage or a specific subset of dementias.

This is confabulation. It is a sign of dementia. His memory is seems so shot that his subconscious makes up bullshit to fill in the blanks.

The Supreme Court FWS judgment is so strikingly a work of confabulation.

It conjures up multiple types of "sex" ab novo, refuses to define the abstraction that it arbitrarily centres, and justifies it by pointing to a handful of concrete examples that don't align with its own assumptions.

The second question and answer you posted is classic confabulation. I saw it thousands of times working with dementia patients. He has no idea who.

"Trump Confronted on Fox News About MAGA Voter’s Anger Over Prices"

Same fucking lies, either that or it's confabulation, a symptom of dementia.

He sits right there telling the commentator that he is wrong!!

this is so stupid. i have to tell people they can't cite e.g. the washington post, new york times, economist, cbs, cnn, in their work because they engage in whole-cloth confabulation. i feel like kim kardashian talking about the moon landing, only i'm telling everyone to get OFF tiktok.

And the confabulation.

This is why the Democrats are holding fast: not for free health care to illegals (confabulation) but because the Republicans WANT this to happen. WTF? www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

The new prices make it official: Americans will need to pay more for insurance next year if extra subsidies are allowed to expire.

This is confabulation. AI techies call it “hallucinating” but what AI is doing fits the definition of confabulating.

"Toyota says it did not explicitly promise Trump new $10.0B investment in US".

Was lardass' lying or is it confabulation, a sign of dementia???

Glad to see it, but AI’s “hallucinating” should be called confabulating, because that’s actually what it is. It’s what a person with dementia does: combine bits of memories and facts inappropriately to make up something that’s completely inaccurate. Confabulation.

This is the worst Michael Crichton novel ever. The super-disease carrying monkeys turn out to have been a confabulation of some cops, the same people who think they get near-fatal fentanyl overdose every time they touch a dusty surface
It's amazing that even in a story about monkeys, cops will just lie about important shit.

"The Jasper County Sheriff's Office originally said the monkeys carried hepatitis C, herpes and COVID. Tulane officials stressed that the animals were not diseased or infectious."

What I think?

"Confabulation is a memory error consisting of the production of fabricated memories about oneself or the world. It is generally associated with certain types of brain damage or dementia. In general, they are very confident about their recollections, even when challenged."

Alpha and I were just talking about that this morning. She says she really enjoys explaining complicated papers to me. I didn't save the quote or anything but she said something about how it hits her summarize and explain buttons at the same time. This of course could be pure confabulation.

Making shit up is called confabulation, a common sign of dementia. People who confabulate actually believe the shit they make up is real.

He’s always been a malignant narcissist - but his accelerating dementia brings ever-worsening *confabulation*: he spews utter garbage & can no longer distinguish it from reality.
Still worse: he believes it.
Trump's latest delusion spotlights his increasingly severe deficits in:
cognition (confabulation; disorganized thought process);
memory (his own trade deal, etc);
emotional regulation (rage); &
reality testing (delusions, paranoia).
These are symptoms of Major Neurocognitive Disorder - aka Dementia.
Neurocognitive Disorders (Mild and Major)
Neurocognitive disorders, mild and major, include a group of conditions which were once all grouped under the umbrella term “dementia.” The conditions involve similar cognitive impairments and decline...

It's both. Dr. John Gartner & others make a compelling case that he has dementia by comparing his speech & behavior from decades/years ago to today, & while he was always a narcissistic dumbass, his word use, pronunciation, meandering sentences, impulisivity, & confabulation are measurably worse now

Once again, everyone has to fall in line behind some creep, it just always seems to work out that way. I'm sure it's not because the Dem leadership and Consultant Confabulation screwed up and are going to make it everyone else's problem.
