sorry this turning into a food blog from 2008 today but I’m prepping my food for the week and why have I lived this long with a convection oven and never roasted sweet potatoes in it until today??? they’re so perfect

WOW! The latest SSMIS 183 Ghz microwave image of Fung-wong (Uwan) indicates a MW brightness temperatures of less then 110 Kelvin. Literally going off the scale. Just like with IR brightness temp, lower values mean more intense convection. Not sure if I have ever seen this before.

They seem pretty neat? Like little electric convection ovens. And substantially more economical than the current full-size gas oven.

What do you call it when you’re furloughed, second pay check missed, this year you’ve already had to replace not only your hot water heater but the convection microwave in your house, and today, after just walking in with groceries, your 5yr old fridge is DEAD?
I need a drink or seven 😭💔😭💔😭💔

Graduate student Tom Juliano shared monitoring and nowcasting tools for weather, particularly deep convection, which results in clouds and often thunderstorms. Nowcasting means short term weather forecasting.
Juliano is advised by CIRA Director Steven Miller through @csuatmossci.bsky.social.

Fung-wong (UwanPH) is seemingly making some real organisational progress today. Convection is really starting to become more centralized near the center lately. Outflow is healthy as always. Still expected to rapidly intensify and strike Luzon as a Super Typhoon (PAGASA) Monday.

Studying the feasibility of building a filament dryer with a PTC heater that gets up to 220°C, 80/120mm computer fans, and Ikea food containers, because I'm not paying €40+ for a convection heater with extra steps

Ars just followed up with a piece about how Google plans to put a terawatt of data centers in orbit. That's roughly on the order of the global average power consumption, and without convection I'm really curious how they intend to dump that heat.
I do physics and orbit stuff. I knew who the author was before I clicked the link. This proposal is "3rd day of a VC coke binge" absurd, and Ars would be a much better mag if it ditched this credulous lickspittle

Do you see it? The eye of Typhoon (foreshadowing) Fung-wong taking shape? Surely the time has come for Fung-wong (pre-Uwan) to start putting the pieces together. Convection has wrapped around the LLCC and is starting to form an 'eye(-like) feature'. Fung wong is huge tho.

Another indication that the rate of strengthening of Fung-Wong (Uwan) is beginning to hasten can be seen in the structure. Very deep convection, more then ever resembling a bonified core and eyewall, is surrounding a central eye-feature that has once again begun to rapidly warm.

No air fryer needed. Just a regular oven in conventional mode (i.e., not convection).

Aggressive, shallow (short!) convection over Champaign-Urbana, #ilwx this evening. Crisp updrafts and mammatus but barely a blip on radar.

Because sticking stuff in a vacuum knocks out convection and conduction leaving only radiating it away

First ready meal smelled like crap and was burnt
Its replacement smells okay but it's burnt again
I'm going to have eat something I'll just manoeuvre around the burnt bits
My convection oven is crap

Sufficient shear and ample moisture return should support organized convection that could grow upscale along the cold front, especially Friday afternoon.
All hazards are possible with this storm system including heavy rainfall, damaging thunderstorm winds, and perhaps a tornado or two.

Today is election day, and it is also roast the gravy turkey day. I am still figuring out my convection oven. I lowered the recipe’s temp by 25 degrees and checked after 90 min - the 13.5# bird was already passed 165 degrees. I'll lower the temp even more next time, I guess?

In many models an SPG collapse precedes an AMOC collapse, where after SPG convection ceases, that in the Nordic seas increases at first (warming), but after some decades it also stops there and starts cooling. There is large uncertainty, but an SPG collapse does increase the risk of an AMOC collapse
