Appleが6月6日に「Game Porting Toolkit(GPTK)」というツールをリリースしたんだって。これはWineとApple独自のD3DMetalを組み合わせたもので、DirectX 11と12に対応してるそう。CrossOverやParallelsに比べると、WindowsゲームをMacでプレイする方法は少し複雑みたいだけど、多くのDirectX 12ゲームが遊べるようになるらしいよ!

Real problem, wrong solution!

Option 1: work with Valve/CodeWeavers to bring Proton/D3DMetal support to the Mac and have Steam be the default store

How to run `No Rest for the Wicked` game on MacOs in CrossOver 25 with proper controller support.

- Create separate bottle (Windows 10 64-bit) with Steam
- D3DMetal + MSync
- "Disable Hidraw" ON in CrossOver
- "Steam Input" OFF in Steam
- Install "DirectX […]

Sad regression in CrossOver 25. You can't play Expeditions game anymore – game stucks before the loading screen.

(Before it was possible to get in-game with couple restarts: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLYP...)

CrossOver 25 is now out! Lots of new games running on macOS thanks to Wine 10, D3DMetal 2.1, DXMT, lots of work on MoltenVK/vkd3d, etc. etc.

How can they extol the virtues of playing games under wine builds like proton but say that this is a problem on macOS? The Linux gaming experience is great for sure, but macOS has DX12 support these days with D3DMetal, so it’s in some ways ahead. Maybe if you don’t know about Mac, leave it out?

I wonder if Apple will ever open source D3DMetal, would be a huge win for macOS gaming. If we ever get Valve integrating D3DMetal in Proton and releasing Proton for macOS its going to be a game changer.

Let's see how Marvel Rivals runs on a Mac. As usual when it comes to Mac gaming, I'm expecting either not at all or not good.

I'm so grateful to Valve for having effectively fixed shader compilation on Linux. Being exposed to the stutterfest that is D3DMetal made me aware how bad it was before.

手持ちのいろんなゲームでD3DMetal試して遊んでたら、一本 M1 Max で 4K120fps で動くゲームがあって、4K120fpsでゲームがヌルヌル動くの面白すぎだからこの世の全ゲームが4K120fpsでヌルヌル動いてほしいなと思いました (日記)

Correction: It appears that D3DMetal is in fact /not/ based off of DXVK (or MoltenVK, SPIRV-Cross, etc…), but rather it is a completely new implementation from Apple.

The real question now is how D3DMetal compares to DXVK / VKD3D-Proton + MoltenVK in terms of both API translation accuracy and performance.

Will be interesting to see.

DXVK is mentioned in the official acknowledgements document for D3DMetal.

Seems like the D3D11 parts of D3DMetal may be partially based off of DXVK, then…?

Some curiosities:
・WINE DLLs for `d3d9.dll` and `d3d10.dll` are shipped in D3DMetal, but as far as I can tell, D3DMetal doesn't actually support either API.
・It seems that D3DMetal implements some ATi Direct3D extensions or something in `atidxx64.dll`, which is rather unusual.

I'm just very pleasantly surprised that Apple actually decided to invest R&D / engineering money into something like D3DMetal.

What a world we live in.

Interestingly, it also seems to go by the name "D3DRendererMetal", though the actual framework itself is named "D3DMetal".
