I don't know if everyone appreciates how freaking cool it is to get to see open source software developers working on issues in real time. You get to see their conversations, their questions back and forth, their thought processes. It's just the coolest thing ever. Snoop a repo today, y'all. #databs

Alright, y'all, it's Friday. Ask me Anything-as-long-as-it's-not-mean. What do you want to know? 🤔

I don't really have much hot tea to spill - the most dramatic things in my life are my cat being sick and my sister's divorce, but I'm kind of an open book.

Recently, I started a tiny experiment:

- coming up with a data challenge
- livestreaming my own ongoing solution (~once a week)

The topic I picked was "are there films rated higher than the books they're based on?"

Here's a sneak peek, will livestream a write up at some point!

This is one of those situations where I spend a bunch of time cultivating a network of folks whose opinions I trust + who are trustworthy.

For example, when Astral launched uv, even though it was super early, I used it in prod.

When Josh Willis launched dbt-duckdb, instant trust

Periodic reminder that correlation is not causation.

Importantly, you cannot properly test causation without a counterfactual to rule out confounding factors. It's why clinical trials have control groups, and why people use A/B tests. #databs 📈📊
