It's based on an actual big fandom incident where a fan asked Jensen Ackles at a con if Destial was gonna be a thing, and he kinda laughed it off. The fan ran off in tears, and it went viral, prompting a whole discourse about queerbaiting, Ackles's perspective on the queer community, etc.
