i hope this can allow for smaller high rises (10-15 stories?) in smaller downtowns like Santa Monica, Long Beach, Burbank, Culver City, Century City, Oakland or San Jose.

He was very strong, w/ a union job as a mover for a long time, later w/ UPS; I ran into him in DTSF 1X. He was culturally open, & gave things his all when his son was diagnosed w/ a terminal illness 15 years ago in his 20s; after much intervention that kid is still alive & well (if grieving) today.

I mean BART was explicitly built to improve commutes to DTSF and it did do that (didn’t meet its mode shift targets for a variety of reasons), but you look at how downtown SF changed, and BART was behind a lot of that.

It took ~12 years of planning and exemplifies a lot of the pre 2020 land use thinking of SF leaders.

This is part of the Central SoMa plan - a joint between office developers and TODCO. It’s 90% office, 10% housing. It’s premised on 2017 DTSF office rents paying for community benefits for politically connected nonprofits.

The other thing is that SamTrans' paratransit serves riders houses or two from the county border in DC and can take them to/from DTSF. If that rider lives on the other side of the line, they would take SFMTA paratransit. Most of those trips are inside SF and very resource intensive.

If Muni were keep running the 40 line interurban all the way to the City of San Mateo, then certainly the county should pay for the op for that line, but SamTrans runs to DTSF everyday and never asks SF to contribute AFAIK.
