Do people of small towns get to be persons? Do minorities, women, the conquered?
Personhood determines whether you home is worthy of environmental protections, or okay to be sacrificed.

E-waste dumps and tailings piles can be mined as ores of certain metals, but aren't ores because they're artificial materials.
And then there's leaverite, the opposite of ore.

India’s Rare-Earth Challenge: Recycling E-Waste as a Strategic Solution
Introduction As India aims to strengthen its position in advanced technology sectors, the country faces a critical bottleneck: rare-earth minerals. Essential for electric vehicles, batteries, and high-tech electronics, these minerals have become a geopolitical tool, with China dominating global supply chains. HCL co-founder Ajai Chowdhry has proposed a bold and immediate solution: recycling e-waste to meet domestic demand. This approach could reduce dependence on foreign imports and fast-track India’s technological ambitions.

Microsoft’s decision to end support for Windows 10 could lead to a massive increase in e-waste with up to 240 million old devices ending up in landfills. Right-to-repair laws and open operating systems challenge this type of planned obsolescence.

The tiniest indies announce full games on card, yet it seems like an impossible task for wealthy industry giants.

But over-all, i'd say just say clone your drive, mess around with Linux distro and see if you can get your features working. Microsoft has turned your computer into e-waste, so there's nothing to lose. If it really fails, then just clone that Windows back-up back to the laptop drive.
