Having a mic at the front and needing people to walk up to the front to ask questions seems a good way to minimise participation, and especially from ECRs. No ideal I don't think! #TROPMED25

I wonder if it might for the big grants? I think the ones that a lot of ECRs are in the running for on an institutional level or outside of it, aren't covering it but I could be wrong!

Also, realising that for the first time in years I've great work-life balance. I still want to provide some degree of volunary service to the community at large, but am limiting that to reviewing the occasional preprint (particularly for ECRs), and maybe peer reviewing for not for profit journals.

I noticed this during my attending seminars in China and talked to some ECRs. The current academic structure pressures ECRs to chase elite titles and only willing to publish Nature/Science indices, ultimately caring less about the research itself. This is an unsustainable way to do science.

Hi, I'm setting up a peer support platform for ECRs in ecology & evolution in China, aiming to address a huge problem --- academic burnout driven by hyper-competition and a system that often prioritizes elite background/title over actual research.

The lack of investment in universities & research is disappointing & a missed opportunity. 🇨🇦 does not need more “international talent”, it needs to invest in its current ECRs, pay them living wages, & most of all >>increase post-doc funding so that they don’t have to look abroad after their PhDs.
